check out Le Bifteck @ 3702 bd. St-Laurent, chill atmosphere and good looking bartenders (don't quote, i'm sure they come and go)

There is a lot of sexual ease in that city, it's great (kind of). Check out the night life maybe, although avoid shadiness.

best poutine , in my opinion, is at La Banquise (994, rue Rachel Est).
There is "Body World" expo at the Centre des Sciences de Montréal. 25$ to see but worth it apparently. i was told you should get tickets in advance : http://www.centredessciencesdemo…
you should also check out : www.madeinmtl.com

yup, Body World would be very interesting.

too bad you just missed Mutek.
but site may still be of interest if you're into checking out the music scene there:

Friends of mine went to the body world exhibit and really enjoyed it.
I want to go see it now!Food is good mostly everywhere, so it's not hard to find great places to eat. Very multicultural here so you can eat lots of great international cuisine, rather then the old smoked meat & poutine (but try those at least once).
Theres good shopping along St. Catherine, and for nightlife go to St. Laurent, anywhere above Sherbrooke Street.
The old port, and old montreal are nice places for walks. Old style buildings and a waterfront, pretty to look at.
That's about all I know! I Swear!

you could pick up a copy of the Montreal Mirror, which is an alternative-ish paper that comes out each thursday with listing on things to see and do.
montreal in the summer is full of festivals. your best bet is to walk around in the plateau - st-laurent, st-denis, mont-royal. places to eat are in that area.
for rock - casadelpopolo, sala rossa
electronic - laika, sat, academy
hiphop - no idealounge - Wonderbar at the new W hotel in the old montreal for expensively fashionably watered down drinks in a trendy atmosphere
the gay village also has a nice 5 floor bar called Drugstore, which is predominantly lesbian, but mixed gay and straight too.

Bodyworld rocks, definitly go see it. Its at the old port, so there's a lot of stuff to do and see around there. Altho avoid eating at the old port, its a tourist trap as far as food is concerned.

Agreed on all the above.
Plus in the plateau area between St. Laurent / St. Denis - there's a cool little walking street running East/West called Prince Arthur. No cars allowed and leads to this nifty little park with a big fountain all lit up in it. Cool place to chill and check out the locals. Range of people from young couples, geezers, potheads/tamtammers, etc.
Prince Arthur Street:
http://www.go-montreal.com/areas…If you're into sushi - wicked sushi restaurant called Maiko on Bernard and Parc. Yum! Lots of vegetarian options too. Then when you're done if you walk a bit west on St. Bernard, there's an amazing ice cream shop called Bilboquet (sp?). Usually huge lineups cause it's so good. (I lived two blocks from both places when I lived in Montreal - awesome neighbourhood)
Review of Maiko:

http://www.frommers.com/destinat…A little south of that area has two amazing bagel shops. Seriously get a bag and take them home, cause they're amazing amazing. Can buy smoked salmon and homemade cream cheese there as well. Tons of different options.

If you're into high fashion shopping - the west bit of St. Catherines has good shopping. There's a decent-sized Holt Renfrew by Sherbrooke/Peel as well.
St. Laurent / St. Denis north of Sherbrooke also has really cool boutique style fashion stores, as well as pretty dope indy music stores where you can find rare / eclectic albums.
And yes - the old port / vieux montreal is cool to see. Notre Dame Cathedral is down there if you're into big gawdy churches. Old Montreal's cool to walk around in for 2-3 hours but pretty boring. Not much to do there.
Check out the contemporary art gallery in Montreal too - it's decent.

Do not go to Tokyo Bar. I hate that spot.
Vinyl is great. small but great music.
For shops, I'd recommend two spots. Both sell stuff from local clothing makers/artists and nice spots and people.
Moly Kulte : 4523, rue St-Denis
a friend from university started this business and its running pretty well)

if you are there w/ a S.O. or the like, Bonaparte in the old port is a fantastic restaurant with a phenominal wine list.
