you could pick up a copy of the Montreal Mirror, which is an alternative-ish paper that comes out each thursday with listing on things to see and do.
montreal in the summer is full of festivals. your best bet is to walk around in the plateau - st-laurent, st-denis, mont-royal. places to eat are in that area.
for rock - casadelpopolo, sala rossa
electronic - laika, sat, academy
hiphop - no idealounge - Wonderbar at the new W hotel in the old montreal for expensively fashionably watered down drinks in a trendy atmosphere
the gay village also has a nice 5 floor bar called Drugstore, which is predominantly lesbian, but mixed gay and straight too.
