the one page portfolio is akin the fashion designers who wear tshirts at their show.
the flash portfolios are like the karl lagerfelds of web design.

flash designers are not creepy pederists...

I still don't think it walks their walk. There's just nothing innovative about this site. Of course it's easy to read and navigate. And yes it does follow the "basics of technology" guidelines, but it lacks brand personality and it doesn't follow what their goal is. To create "awesome websites."
So v5 don't feed me that "back to basics" crap. I'm not talking about trying to change the way you read or drive a car. If you don't get what I'm saying, then maybe you just don't get it.

Inspiring work. Boring site. Inspiring Portfolio.
Honestly...what's with the trend of firms like kni, doing all HTML? They based most of their portfolio on cutting-edge Flash sites. Why couldn't they do an all Flash site with just as much usability and updateable content?

why does everybody assume a flash site can't showcase work just as clearly and simply--that's just silly

(Jun 6 07, 13:26)exactly.
doesn't matter if it is flash or html. although I do more html work, so naturally I am more into the html designs (mainly using css or newer coding).

d5ive, it sounds like you have a hard time making your point. evidently you are not communicating clearly. something the kni site is doing quite well.
http://kurtnoble.com is doing exactly what they want it to, attract clients through showcasing work in an easily navigable, clean, well thought out presentation.
the purpose, I would assume of that site is to garner business by being compatible with the most common denominator albeit browser or os, not simply satisfy the eye candy needs of the over saturated.

Anybody catch Richard Serra on Charlie Rose last night?

I think web technologies have developed enough that people should be able to do clean, strong design without making sacrifices. Flash is an incredibly powerful medium, I just don't think most designers understand the technology enough to utilize it.

lest we forget the OC school of web design.

lolz at being 'more into' css/html vs. flash... or vice-versa - I love building and problem solving in both... and you'll find (if you stop bitching about Flash... you know who you are.. ;)...)... that IF wandered around Flash enough - you see that it's veeeeeery much an object-oriented means of managing shit on-screen... but w/a shite-load more bells and whistles (if you need them)...
... they're both valid methods of putting shit online...
kni... looks hot as is... could be flash... would load just as fast... be just as dynamic and more than likely have zero differences in the way it looks on diff. user's browsers..
... but flash is fine... and so is css. Pick one... and FUCKING BUILD SOMETHING... FFS!!!... just stop 'bashing' one over the other - they both have purposes... imho - you'd be better off (you know you are) if you stopped ripping Flash and picked up and a copy and joined the rest of the web. :)

... my comments were directed toward anyone putting Flash 'down' simply because they don't like it (which translates into: it's over their head or they're too lazy to suck it up and do a few tutorials, learn some scripting concepts & 'get to know' Flash)...... the same thing could be said to someone scared of DOM scripting... which is precisely what the kni site is... plenty of 'bells and whistles' from the javascript side - applied appropriately... and formated w/css.
... Key Point: be appropriate in how you use your tools.

(Jun 6 07, 13:49)Part of that quote was mine, Pony, and yet I never said anything about flash sucking. I said that either one is fine, just that my personal preference is html. Doesn't mean I'm going to base a crit on just that - that would be lame.
I'm basing my positive comments about KNI around the fact that the site is a nice change from their previous design and shows off their work more than anything else. Doesn't have as much to do with flash vs. html as many people believe, but there are interesting prospects for both.
