there have been a few threads about purchasing refurbed books from apple, but i need to know a bit more about general refurb experiences recently.
anyone buy a refurbed product from apple? what about those who've purchased in the past...worth it in the long-run?
thanx

I have had a few refurbed products and have had no issues with them.
I just got a refurbed iPod, which bit it last week. I took it to the store, and they replaced it no problem.
Point is, to apple, they see it as a new machine, and the warranty is still intact. They're cheaper and you can get Apple Care for it, win-win.

i've bought 2 iPods refurb. both looked brand new.
i bought an iBook referb. looked flawless and they even through in extra ram for me no charge.
at work a buddy bought a macbookpro recently refurb and they also through in more ram. no charge.
my boss bought a refurb iMac and it looks and performs flawless, but they did not throw in extra ram for him.
my test group is very small but from what i've bought and what my friends have bought refurb no one has ever had a problem.
i was actually amazed at how clean and new the iPods looked. i don't know if they slapped new skins on them but there was not a scratch on them.

i have bought 2 referb laptops and 1 referb mac mini.
They all have looked brand new and nothing wrong with them.
They come with the 1 year warranty and software you need. And you can still buy the extended warranty.
It is a no brainer really.
BUT... wait till after WDDC to buy a referb, because when they announce a new laptop, ( which they might ) the referbs go way down in price.

WWDC i mean.. coming up June 11

thanks guys, that's really helpful. i do think they're worth it (for what i want to buy, timing etc) but i need to convince my better half who is anti-refurb.
you really can't beat the price and w/apple care i would hope that any issues we might encounter would be taken care of.

hey same, think the price drops will be across the board after 6/11 or just affect laptops?
- same0
depends on what they announce usually.
When they announced the Core 2 Duo, I snagged a 2500 dollar Core Duo for 1650.

nice! well either way i can definitely wait til after the 11th to get what i need, so maybe i'll find even better price after that
thanks for the heads-up!

where do you buy these refurbs?

i really got my eyes on that 24" iMac.

doug, move away from the imac and put your hands where i can see them.
that's the machine i'm thinking of buying but there'll be others.

one ipod 5gen - flawless, only the box it came in was cardboard. With ipods, they must replace cases, because these have serial numbers on them - refurbs get new numbers.

I've always bought refurbs and always through apple.com - never a problem.

the old refurb G5 is still alive and kickin. Great deal, same warranty.
long live the refurbs.

yeah, refurbs rule. Basically like playing lotto.
Best refurb experience: Bought a 250G, 1G RAM 20" iMac, and they sent a 500G, Maxed out RAM system, for like $1400. Purrs like a kitty over a year later.

dude..
you can buy apple refurb with apple care. Just like if it was a new product.Same deal, you just pay less money and you are less likely to get a defective product than if you get it new.

(May 25 07, 10:10)That is a common misconception, some people think refurb means used. and its not always the case.
Most of the time its a display item, box was opened, etc.

I'm guessing apple refurbs are about the same a mobile phone refurbs we used to offer when I worked at O2 a few years back. They're technically second hand but are basically units that have been returned in full working order within 14 days. Essentially they're brand new so you shouldn't ever have a problem.

I have 2 15" MBP 2.16 Intel Duo Core 2s and haven't had an issue with either one. I just upgraded the RAM this week and everything is beautiful.
