hey nt,
i need your help again. here is a rough comp for an HVAC site. The left nav is weak (as may the rest of the layout), and I would like to hear what you all think (and hopefully more than just 'Start over'). I plan on working some more on it tomorrow evening before passing pics onto the client.
Thanks,
J

the white 1px on each side of masthead and footer will be removed.

to me it looks pretty templatey and generic...can you bump the font size down and try to show more content in there?

there is really not much to crit.
It doesn't really feel like an HVAC site. Seems to candy coated for what HVAC means in my head. I would toughen it up before you present it.

cool. thanks so far. i have no content other than company name, categories/links/page titles, logo, and a tagline.
it looks like i need that from the client first. thanks again.

Maybe make the contents of the header smaller for some open space and to add some dynamic to your design.
Tone down the bg image, right now its too prominent.
Add a little more content, be it lorem ipsum or some image holders.

lol where to start... :P
i dont really feel i can give a proper crit cause i reckon ur gonna change it all anyway.. or add so much to it that whatever i say will be pretty redundant :)however.. from that...
1- lose the funny patterned backround its too hectic - or give it a softer opacity & softer blend
2-that longo could be scaled down a lot
3-the nav seems to be thrown in there for the sake of it
4-the footer text wants to be center alignned
5-softer dropshadows on the header + site body
6-the header is obnoxiously huge to JUST contain a name..(youve dedicate a QUARTER of ur site JUST to the name...)
7-maybe think about using some pixel fonts instead.. for footer text or nav
8-this is a personal thing - but when i use lined rules (on header) i like them to be SUPER thin.. like .25pt to 1pt (max)a few pointers.. hope it helps jay

lose the pattern in the back, something easier will do, logo a lot smaller and really there isnĀ“t much else to say...try add some content...
