My father in law is a dentist. He gave me a gold crown last year. Mainly because gold is better as a material to work with from his perspective. It's round the side so you can't see it fortunately.
If I was paying for it I wouldn't have had it though.

I was asked about it when I needed a half crown last year. I didn't do it. The gold was going to show when I smiled or opened my mouth at all. My wife thought it would be a great exercise for me to keep it shut so I went with enamel.

I was going to do the very same thing a few years back – I love the old school and I thought that it would be fun.
After a load of visits to the dentist (my sister) she explained that a gold cap would last 2-5 years, and that an enamel one should last 10 years. After all that pain, I decided to put off the next round for 10 years and went with enamel.
