A little background history.
5 de Mayo (5th of May) is a Mexican holiday which celebrates the Battle of Puebla, a battle won by Mexico over the French army. A battle won in a lost war. This holiday is not a major holiday in Mexico, school children get the day off and that's it. In the US however, 5 de Mayo is celebrated all around mainly as an excuse to get drunk. It is still a historical mistery why 5 de Mayo is celebrated in the US so widely. Could be a conspiracy by Grupo Modelo, producer of Corona beer to sell more product.

I got a case of Corona on Wednesday for the weekend, and it is already finished...
I have no real plans outside of the normal though.
Haha, my one friend used to have a big party and even one year we got a donkey, hahah.
And every year, whoever passed out first ... got pizza in their pants.

he seriously couldn't pick a better day to fight, he'll have huge mexican support in the arena tomorrow night.

i thought mexican automatically became drunk on cinco de mayo. that's what happened to me on asian heritage night at shea this week, i got really good at math.
anyway, i will be very drunk for my friend's bachelor party in nyc. he will be chained to a bowling ball.

heard something interesting regarding limes and corona - maybe someone can enlighten me....
Corona was never intended to have lime squeezed in it, originally the lime was stuck into the top of the bottle to keep flies from flying into the bottle.
has anyone else heard that?

We mexicans always tend to put lime, salt and powder chilly on everything but apart from that the use of lime on beer came from the custom of sucking a lime after a shot of tequila to take the tequila flavor out of your mouth. People just starting doing the same with beer. Supposedly you should only put a few drops of lemon into the beer bottle just for flavoring but I've seen people make lemonade out their beer.

As far as having a good reason to celebrate the 5th in America... there really doesn't need to be a good reason, look at Labor Day... don't ask, just do.
