I'm an Art Student in the UK, i'm starting my final project and I want to print a booklet on A2 Newsprint, or paper similar to newsprint. I'm having real trouble finding any at sensible, studenty prices - I only want a ream or 2 - help!

I'd try and do a deal with a nearby art shop. If you're in London theres a good one near Whitechapel called Atlantis that definately sell it in quantities.

Thanks, I've tried all the art shops around me, I'm in Birmingham - they don't stock it. My college should help me but they're shit.

have you tried professional newspaper printers?
a lot of people i know get good deals by printing on excess paper from actual newspaper stock.
search aronud your local areas and hit up some newspaper printers. sure you can get a good deal

Are you just after the paper?
Call Robert Horne and ask for some free samples: 08457 443322 they will provide you with a load of A2 sheets.

Nope, they won't. I rang them earlier today and they'll only give me some A4 sheets and swatches - some sales bloke just tried to sell me loads of special paper for about 20 minutes, when all i want is like an RA2 ream of newsprint or something similar to newsprint - or sample sheets or whatever.

mmm, i guess people are more tight fisted in the UK.
Try several printers perhaps?

Yeah, I actually managed to pick up the end of a roll of newsprint from my local evening paper about a month ago, but it's really difficult to work with - I don't know why but it doesn't seem the same as normal newsprint - it crumples up completely when you try and do anything with it.
Also, as I'm just a poor student, the only real printing method I've got available is photocopying. Screenprinting is out of the question because my college's workshop is so oversubscribed, and i can't think of any other cheap printing methods for A2 newsprint!
It's all a bit frustrating really, thanks for the suggestions though.

Just rang about 10 paper suppliers and asked for samples from all of them, fingers crossed!

I printed on newsprint when I was at college. You can buy both newsprint and bible paper from Faulkner fine paper in holborn, london.
It's pretty cheap anyway given it's light weight, shouldn't cost too much.

How did you print onto it Baskerville? Thanks for the info, maybe a trip down to london is in order.

I actually just ran it through an A3 inkjet. Was a bit of a nightmare, but once I had worked out how to make sure it didn't crumple and how much ink it could take, things were ok. It was only for a one off project though. If you want to print a newpaper or something you'll have to get it done professionally.

I'm trying to make a fold down A2 booklet, there won't be many pages. I was just going to photocopy it but then i found out that A2 photocopies cost £1.50 each and now i'm shitting through my eyes.

do you mean a double-sided A2 which folds down into a booklet?
In which case you only need one sheet. How many copies are you planning on making?

I was hoping to do about 50-100, they're going to be part of a little pack that i ideally wanted to polybag, but again, no idea how i'd do that.
I've basically got in touch with a record label in the US who're going to send me some content for it, and it'll act as a promotional pack for the Label - the booklet will have info and photographs of their signed bands, there'll be a mix CD, maybe some stickers or badges, and a couple of postcards.
Any advice on packaging the different materials together would be much appreciated

Hiya, i managed to get hold of some A2 newsprint in the end, thanks to some generous samples.
If anyone had time to give me some feedback on the stuff I've done so far for my project, I'd be grateful. Especially the logo.

Sounds like the label should pay to have it printed right. Have you tossed them an estimate?

Rightio, remember this stuff:
I've got about 3 weeks before it needs to be finished. Printing is a real problem.
The poster, i'm getting photocopied, that's fine.
However, the booklet (which is folded down to A5 from A2, and opens out into an A4, an A3 and lastly an A2 spread) is a diff story.
I've gone to 3 or 4 reprographics places and most of them say that they can't print double-sided A2, on their digital printers. Obviously i can't afford litho print, spesh as it's only a run of about 100.
I went to one place, and they were perfect, except they weren't allowed to use any paper but there own, and as i'll be supplying the printers with 100gsm recycled SRA2 paper, they said no.
Soooo I'm asking for help on getting my colour double-sided A2 poster/booklet printed - any ideas would be much appreciated. I really don't want to have to downsize everything to A3.
Cheers.
