Ok, I'm driving by a billboard and filming it...then i'm replacing the billboard graphic with a picture of my face.
Tracking and Pinning is perfect until part of the billboard goes out of frame. That's when things get jumpy.
Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to achieve what I'm going for?

Are you using the tracking program in AE? For things like that, that are short, I will keyframe by hand.
Start with general movements, then begin to fine tune the animation and masking.

I'm working on fine tuning now. There's still a lot of chatter over about a 2 second area. It's turning into a rotoscoping project.
...and I'm starting to wonder if my face is worth the work!

Welcome to "fixing it in post" :)
whats been suggested is the only way to do it i'm afraid, frame by frame if need be.
Can you reshoot the footage? drive past your billboard again and making sure to keep everything in frame this time?

What you could do, depending on the blurriness of the footage outside (passing-by), is get a clear shot of the billboard- Photochop it, then comp it in on top of the blurred background footage, mask out your car window and comp it.
Basically, have your passing billboard as a separate element, that is easier to control and manipulate.

I wish I had control over the footage. It's actually a self promo for my company.
The video guy asked me if he filmed a billboard, could I composite over it. With my gigantic lying mouth...."uh, sure man".
...and here I am with a deadline of 8am. :) I'm working it though. With your help and a few beers, it's getting better. Thanks!

Here is what I would do in the end, to kind-of cover your tracks...
Adjustment layer the hell out of it.
Things to add:
When in final comping, add an adjustment layer of subtle motion blur, obviously. This will help make the scene more believable. I might also add some kind of camera wobble to the entire piece, so that tiny shakes in the footage will include the billboard, so that, even if it looks a little fake, it will still seem to move as one element- so design civilians won't be able to tell the difference.

I'll definitely try those suggestions digital. thanks for the help everyone.
p.s. the graphic isn't really my face, but after all this work, it deserves to be. ;)
