if you go with the Dell 2007WFP buy refurbed. About $280 a piece with free shipping. I bought three of them recently without any problems. FedEx lost one enroute and Dell shipped another one over night no questions asked.
I have one sitting next to my Apple display turned vertical. It's nice display but the Apple is better. Just not 3-4 times better.

I have the 24" Dell and love it.
Co-worker got an X2Gen 22" at Costco for $229 at Costco.com. He hasn't complained about it.

dont get the current line of dell screens - they are year old models and due for an upgrade, whilst also iffy if you will get a good panel or not.
just bought a screen - philips 200WS - after the pain of research, and is really nice. Wish could afford an eizo though.

If you're getting the Dell 24" amke sure you get the latest model, who's model # escapes me, but all so make sure you get an A04 revision panel, which are the latest.

On the Dell, some areas of lighter colors, blues, light reds, etc. you can really see a texture to how the color is displayed. It's very strange, but I guess I've gotten used to it. It may also have to do with a need for a better video card.

yah version5, I'm really eager to see the monitor on a new computer. My graphics card is only 4x agp and on the specs for the next comp. I'm building I have a pretty nice pci-express card. I'm having so many problems with my computer right now it's time to blow it up and build a new one!
