Is it me or do web "designers" strike anyone else as more like web "illustrators"? IA folks seem to make more designerly decisions. I dunno. Its late and I'm not thinking straight.

If you work in a place that doesn't understand what a real web designer does, you might want to look for another job.
Good interactive designers understand that the design is all about structure and UI functionality. Color and graphical elements reinforce the UI, not get in the way of it.
