my last post was rushed and poorly composed. sorry.
Sickman has good advice, also.
I worked in a very popular vegy/vegan restaurant here in TO and almost all the veg/vegans I knew there had to go back to some meat/egg/dairy at some point.
Fish and dairy are okay. just be aware of where it comes from and how it's produced farmed etc.
the 'local food movement' is more important right now.

I don't eat many different kinds of meat, but I need meat itself.
Also, it'd be much harder for me to donate blood ;)

it is all personal preference, demonizing someone because they enjoy eating meat is kinda dumb, no?
I have a vegan friend, we make fun of each other constantly. His skin is pale (not due to his diet, I don;t think) but it is good fun making fun of each other. Sucks when we have bbq's and I have to prepare two different meals because of that bastid though.

I only have a slight problem with those who don't eat meat because they don't believe in hurting animals.
- Jaline0
not that I like hurting animals - that's not the point.
the point is, just as Maddox's article notes, there are other ways people endanger animals everyday and don't realize it.

mrs_emecks is a vegetarian, I am a fully fledged calf murdering veal eater.
I would say that I don't hold anything against veggies, but that is obviously not the case :)

i respected all my vegan friends decisions to stop eating meat. the meat industry has a shady to it and there can be many good health benifits to a diet of greens.
but its not for everyone. and its success often depends on factors outside of ones control - ie. blood type, age, genictic background, ect,ect

bacon has brought many a vegan down...
Just what i've noticed
And normal bacon, none of that round canadian stuff

I have veggie friends, and have no issue finding places to eat or cooking alternatives. However, with a couple exceptions, most all of them are not in the best of health. A little pale and have this "tired" thing going on.
Hmmm

i have no problems with a person who does not eat meat, it is their belief, personal preference... whatever, demonizing someone because of that is kinda dumb.
but i have ABSOLUTELY NO TOLLERANCE for a person who does not share my beliefs on politics and religion!
- mrdobolina0
humans are biologically omnivores, right?
- Jaline0
I think I came off weirdly.
Basically, I respect another person's decision to eat whatever, as long as they aren't cooking humans.
Well....the beautiful ones, at least.
- JG_LB0
i don't preach about being veg to anyone or make peoples feel guilty...it's just a personal choice. my motto is do whatever the fuck you want, just leave me the fuck alone.

Any christians out there eat meat ? Slaughter the animals yourselves ? Pay someone else to do it for you ? Thou shalt not kill, remember, not murder- kill, it says..
How do you justify this in between telling scientists they dont know what they're talking about, and shouting at your kids, you bloody losers.

(Apr 13 07, 10:23)this statement/logic is a little ridiculous and naive.
Buddhists to (and even more so) believe that killing (and that means killing any life) is wrong. But the Dalai Lama himself admits to eating meat. He has to at times.
Humans always have.

(Apr 13 07, 10:46)i don't think i'm helping animals by going vegy. its just that i find the way the animals are treated and the way they are raised a little sickening and wrong.
thats not to say that i agree with lots of modern farming pratices either

tell you what fucks me right over the edge:
You would never dream of trying to "hide" meat in a vegetarian's meal, so why the fuck can my family not respect my decision not to eat mushrooms or feta??
"you didn't notice that you ate goat's knob cheese did you?"
"did you enjoy the pastry? You know that 'japanese seaweed'? That was mushrooms, hahahaha"
Oh aye fucken hilarious, wait until I actually do boke over the table whilst pinching the sides of my mouth together to ensure maximum spayage, see how funny you think it is then.
hooooors

Jaline - you're being silly.
Sickman is on the ball in this case. You're from Vancouver right?
Listen to that ^man. He knows what he's saying.
It's the industry that is problematic and worrisome. As a consumer you should demand better practices by buying local and organic.

I DO have a problem with the meat industry, and th wholesale consumption of meat. For one thing, here in the US it is heavily subsidized, in that money I could rightfully spend on veg is taken by the feds and given to people for eating meat, the production of which fucks up the environment for everyone else - acres of chicken farm that seep shit into everyone elses water supply, kills the river, makes a right fucking stink and a shameful irresponsible mess that everyone else has to put up with.. Try and light a cigarette in the wrong place and these same hypocrites wag their lard-laden fingers at you before driving off in a cloud of exhaust fumes on their way to church.
Meat might taste nice and be associated with feeling tough and macho, but the truth IS that in a shrinking world it is just plain irresponsible. Do you want to leave this world a better place than when you got here ? Think of your impact on the environment happening all in one place - if you eat meat, you have several acres of shit-laden barren wasteland, and a lake full of water that could be needed somewhere else. Just because your footprint is spread out over a whole continent does not mean you are not responsible. If you want to eat meat, get some cheap land in the midwest and raise the animals yourselves, otherwise stop foisting your wasted energy and rivers of shit onto the rest of us, its time to grow up.

I dont really lean either way, but I hear this book has swayed a lot of peoples opinions in past.
