Have you freelancers ever had someone call you out of the blue and offer you a project? How'd it turn out for you....?
I had a surreal experience today and thought some of you myabe had an interesting story to share - as you usually do.

I just got one last week. Lady wants me to do a site for her, she's got about 100 images she wants to show blah blah blah then she goes on about just paying 100k for her landscaping.
I put in my proposal a bid for $65 an hour and she literally had a fit.
"Find someone else" I said.
Why is it people have such a friggin hard time paying for our line of work? Boggles the mind.
- OSFA0
well it is not only paying for this line of work. It also has to do with people taking it seriously. I am glad to say I've learned based on experience and know when to 'pass' on a client that will become a problem.
I agree, once you get a nice deposit, you're in....

I know, they seem to have no problem paying a plumber 75 an hour, though
- tkmeister0
think about it. how many designers do you know who have successfully scammed the clients?

having a house that doesn't smell like shit is a higher priority than a site that doesn't look like shit to prob 99% of the population in regards to the plumber statement
- ********0
having their company smell like shit is ok?

Rand shits on this thread.

(Apr 10 07, 12:53)exactly. Also, many people feel that those "icky" jobs are worse than designing a site, and therefore are willing to pay more. As long as they don't have to deal with the ickiness, they'll pay a reasonable amount.
When it comes to design, most people know they can't do it as well as actual designers (actually, some believe they can do it themselves but just "don't have time"), but still don't feel that it's a legitimate thing to worry too much about.

plumbing can be much easier than this stuff
- Jaline0
when I say "icky", I also mean physical labour and that stuff...

- version30
ask your cousin about cross browser compatibility and forward compliancy code he writes.
I want to know i have support for years to come so it will require css not his slices from his hacked copy of fireworks/dreamweaver

some fucking lady called me today and said:
"I am not a people person"
"95% of the job is already completed"
"you only need to clean it up"
"you have to agree to the job before you see it"
"i only work wednesday evening and on sunday night"
"I have $X to spend and will pay you 30 days after it's done"
"I will not sign a contract"
"if you take the job, you cannot ask me about the pictures on my wall"all i could do was laugh incredulously.
