so nothing of all this explosive verbal abuse was anthology worthy?

guess not.

you have to enforce creativity tho as this is the only faculty that would allow you to think outside the box. Of course math, science and the other subjects are part of problem solving, but you have to be able to step back and see things from a different perspective (big picture) instead of just relying on a formula or theory. That is what makes designers who they are and be able to communicate through illustrations or simply words.

I am sure you will find that the kids of today, know what a jpg is etc. It's the people born before a certain decade that might be a bit off on the tech lark.

i consider it to be the responsibility of the parent to teach, not only the definition/uses for a variety of file formats, but also basic typography and color skills.
throw in proofreading and you might even get a slight return on your investment in the tykes.

I agree (I'm not a math and science student anymore, although science is cool). The school system needs to be changed around to meet the requirements of the "real world", but at the same time there's only so much you can learn in school.

(Apr 2 07, 06:13)They know what image files are, but many still don't know the distinctions between formats.

it was tinged with too much of a nod to the cheap seats, ffs
- Jaline0
Anyway, I still don't think not knowing the difference between file formats will ruin your life.
Some people don't use image files as much as they use formulas. It all depends.

honestly, learning to manage your anger and frustration in grade school is a much more important topic

Some of the greatest people I've known...I've met in school. And all of my best friends are some school too. Again, it all depends on various factors.
I agree with Brian that parents have to be willing to teach these types of things to their children. Not every little thing, since that's what teachers and school are for, but the most important and basic stuff, for sure.

Half the job has always been to educate, which is represented by the "consulting" part.
Being up to date with current file formats and why one is better than the other is so insignificant and useless information to anyone outside this little bubble. It would be like getting a lecture from a convenient store clerk just because you're picking the items in the wrong order - he can't for the world understand why you aren't fully aware of the fact that the tomatos are WAY before the tuna in the left aisle.
Knowing all of this is half-way to knowing the job alltogether, so we should be happy for this "ignorance", as you so eloquently put it.
