how do you make a gradient, colour to transparent.??
i'm using cs2.
- horton0
transp in grads not supported w/ illustrator.
depending on your colors you could possibly achieve the same effect by applying transp/ multiply.

I've often wondered the same thing. Gave up years ago.
- ian000
yup. trans/multiply.

bring in a psd or use 'multiply''= etc as written above^^
but yeah... no alpha control in the gradient...
... this may change though? CS3?... flash has been doing this for a looooong time...perhaps they'll add that feature to illy finally?!

yup. trans/multiply.

(Mar 29 07, 10:41)i use this way all the time.
just look at any of my Giant Robot art on my site.

ah ok, thanks.
- e-pill0
also rememberto copy paste a layer of the same shape in back using "black" this will help showcase the gradient more so when going into the transparency phaze.

likin' the robots dude.

thanks!!

fingers crossed for this functionality in CS3

can't you fill say a square with the solid tint you want used in the gradient then create a black and white gradient above that in either the same shape aor whatever shape you want to and use that to create an opacity mask? then that solid tint by default becomes a gradient.. it should have transparency?
- jonnyquest0
or you can use the multiply route but i've always used an opacity mask over a solid fill.

Indesign CS2 allows you to do this...
and even allows you to apply gradients to strokes.I think Illy CS3 is going to support this stuff now too.

The multiply/screen method does not work on all occasions.
The solution is simple:
draw a shape with the color you want.
make another shape with a gray scale gradient over it.
In the appearance palette, select "make opacity map"
presto.
It would be nice if you could just set alpha values to colors, though.

nice thx laurus i knew of that trick but can never remember it when needed.
+ lets hope CS3 fixes all this.
