i've been rocking a beta version and i can say there is TONs of great new stuff across the board. Espeically in photoshop and its integration with flash and other apps.

Just a thought... but I have my work version of CS 1 installed at work and at home, as the license allows for.
For $399, I would easily upgrade to have CS 3 at home. Does this only upgrade the current version/license, or does it pretty much give you a new version and new license?
Thing is, I'm planning to build a new computer within the next X months - would I have to use the CS 1 discs to install CS 3 upgrade on a new computer that CS was never installed on?

if those prices are close to accurate, then I agree that the upgrades aren't that badly priced.

it vindicates my previous decisions to not bother to upgrade from CS1

I have CS1. I could probably get by with Photoshop 6 and Flash MX.

I have pshop cs1, illy cs1, and inD cs1 all purchased separately. the upgrade price is like 900 from a single product. anyone know if theres a discount for multiple owned products that aren't part of a suite?

To the broke...
Check your local Community Colleges... you might be able to get a deal on some old software now at a student discounted price.
