This post (CANADA F..K BESTIALITY), is bullshit. The issue, and this organization's petition, are moot. And before you put any energy into supporting it - do some more research and really think about what is happening.
And why the hell is Paul McCartney sticking his royal nose into a cause he obviously doesn't understand.

I think your comments are moot because the issue simply isn't moot. I wouldn't try and trivialise the reality of the struggle to protect the wilderness from gross, destructive business practices subsidized by an entire government.

I'm not a huge seal fan. His music just doesnt do it for me. But at the end of the day, to each his own.

yeah, i don't think we're ever gonna survive unless we get a little more crazy.

If seals were not cute looking, then we wouldn't have this problem.
Besides, what else am I supposed to put on my toast in the morning?
mmmm, blubber...

...wouldn't try and trivialise...

(Mar 21 07, 10:05)exactly - i don't want the issue to be trivialized. it's complex and debatable.
I'm not saying I support the destruction of any life, or wilderness, but come on don't be so naive and hypocritical. All those petition signators from California have no right judging something they don't know anything about. they're living on land that was taken from a civilization that was destroyed by their ancestors. and they probably have no problem stuffing their faces with sirloin steaks and fish cakes....

it's so beyond the cuteness factor. it's not sustainable and it hurts the envirnment beyond a bunch (millions I should add) of helpless seals on the ice. the boats and people presence amoungst this sort of nature is like a shit stain on perfect tighty whities. it's like our modern and otherwise responsible canadian government and hunters are acting like profit hungry third world pochers.

(Mar 21 07, 10:24)sure enough it's a trendy type of activsm sometimes destined to be trivialised but to me it's not the sort of thing that proves very fruitful. it's nevertheless a serious issue with many aspects to consider.

There's too many seals and they eat up too much fish. It's that simple.

Some stories about the hunt:

http://www.canada.com/topics/tec…In other news:
Did anyone hear about the polar bear issue right now? I can't find any news stories about it online, unfortunately.
Apparently there is a baby polar bear that is being taken care of by a zoo here since its family rejected it or something, and animals activists claim that he should be put down (through injection) because the zoo is worse than death.
Sometimes I agree with these activists, but other times I don't. Like now.
- Jaline0
ESPECIALLY since they keep telling us about how polar bears are going to become extinct....
what the hell?
- M0NEYCIDE0
i saw the worst video of polar bears in south american on a animal cruelty infommercial one time early in the morning and i had a aching lump in my throat for weeks...they were being tortured by working in a circus with hats in hot and humid weather, infested with fleas, constantly moaned and swayed their heads back and forth and they weighed probaly a good 75 percent less then what they should. the good news is that the point was that some of them had been bought or rescued and were being brought to proper facilities to heal but mostley just to die a more comfortable death.
- Jaline0
Yes, thankfully I'm pretty sure Canadian zoos are MUCH better than that.
- Sickman0
activists should be put down 'cause having to listen to them is worse than death.
what are we to do? let it die? why not that? thats what would happen in nature normally.
or should we save it? the animal is endangered.....
there is no right answer
- M0NEYCIDE0
no there's not a right answer it's already wrong. activists are the ones struggling with the questions.

thanks for posting those articles, Jaline.
This excerpt is interesting...
"I knew that we had to look at the other side of the (coin) to see what was happening," Jomphe said.
While he doesn't eat meat, and considers himself to be an environmentalist, Jomphe says he always had doubts about animal-protection activists who, for decades, described the seal hunt as a cruel, barbaric ritual.
Federal officials have long maintained the hunt is well-monitored and sustainable, with a seal population of nearly 6 million."
