You can use Java in the scripts?!
How? To what end?
I'm using Processing still to do this sort of thing.

------------------------------Yes, you can import all Java lib's to my knowledge.. I'm not really a Java programmer, so far I've only used it to open textfiles and paste the content to the illustrator document because it was too long to hardcode

I see where v5 and others are coming from, however having zero interest in coding of any sort doesn't make one lazy. Perhaps at some point in my career that will interest me, but I don't think it makes me less of a designer because I lack the interest and left-brain acuity to write code. Believe me, I expend plenty of creative energy on more right-brain endeavors (not that one is superior to the other, it's just how I'm wired).
I agree with Crouwel that it's silly to say designers should create their own tools. If they want to go that route, that's fine. I have plenty of respect for people like Josh Davis who can code as well as they can design. But taking it a step further and saying that designers should write their own Java is like saying mechanics should forge their own wrenches or that photographers should make their own cameras.
