well, i'm getting ready to transfer to get a BFA in Graphic Design, and I'd like to know of any recommendations you guys may have. In the US, and preferably CA. Are "Art Institutes" worth shit? I'll be visiting SDSU, Academy of Art SF, & Art Center.
Any other design programs worth looking at?

or just list the college you went to. (if applicable)

if you going to san francisco, CCA
but skip the flowers in your hair and all that.

if they advertise on TV, don't go there...

stay away from the art institutes, total shite. i went to the one in atlanta for a year before transferring to the university of georgia. i love the digital media program here; it's very wide open as to what you want to do, and the professors are great. i'm not impressed with the graphic design program from what i've seen hanging in the halls, though. just look at the school's website and check out the faculty. that's only part of the experience; the rest is what you put into it.

CCA, Art Center & CalArts are the only 3 really worth mentionning in California. (not in that order)

i would add otis to that list.
- r_mutt0
i would counter that otis isn't in the same league as the 3 mentionned.
- r_mutt0
otis is probably along the lines of an academy of art, a very decent school.

and what of the UC/state's? any ones with design programs worth mentioning? CSUN, SDSU?

do not go to a UC in california if you are into "graphic design". they do not teach "design". Only "art". As soon as a project seems slightly commercial oriented they flip out. however if you're into making art and not design it can be a cool experience.
I believe SDSU has a graphic design program, but I can't speak for it since I didn't go there.
I heard Cal St. Long Beach has a good program for graphic design. I've heard they're stuff is much more real-world oriented than the art/theory stuff at the UCs.
And stay away from those art institute places. I don't think they're worth the money.

i do not know much about the graphic design programs in california, but i know the one at asu is pretty good. i was in the program for a year and they are more commerically oriented towards the later years.

Don't go to school. Use self discipline, learn on your own, go to good films, frequent art galleries, do some free-lance, gain experience, build your portfolio.
Be ahead 4 years instead of behind, and debt free.

-and then once you realise that you're nuthin but a corporate pawn, go to school and figure out what you really want to do.
