how will you make it worth someone's time without paying them for it?
- version30
credit/ experience/ bullshit

well, they do say "trust us"...

There are so many internships like that.
I've heard of more unpaid ones than paid.

we have 8 unpaid interns every season, otherwise known as my personal dating pool
- oldelpaso0
much rather go to a GOOD unpaid internship that a shitty paid internship...
at the internship stage all that matters is to get the foot in the door..
id even consider working with mimeartist for free... (HINT)

you should see the line for interns at epitaph, i walked in there to work one day, talked to brett, he called me a pixeltwin (life ended then) and there was a gaggle of kids just hanging out waiting to be told what to do, i even put a couple to work for me. so funny

as long as you see that if you do well it can lead to something... i mean like dont do it at the corner neighborhood printshop

the intern i have is too good already... i live only two doors down form him now and am stealing his internet while orange broadband fuck about for another fortnight
- Jaline0

pay interns because it's good for the economy. my intership offered to pay me once they realized i was talented and contributed a lot and because i was doing it through school i was basically paying to work for them
- mimeartist0
they are 'a seriously talented group of folks' though!

i did get a surprisingly polite decline ! :)
northkingdom send me a "please cease to exist" declaration :(
- mimeartist0
blimey... i'm surprised you even got a surprise, really bad at that... and there is only two of us... so don't get a lot of time to do it

For Suckers Only.
Seriously, If you want to ruin your career, then work for free for like 5 months --> Then in the future no company will ever pay you since they know you will work for free.
Real Shit.

it is slavery.

It would only be worth it for a top agency/studio.
- oldelpaso0
if they make a go of it then it isnt - if theyr not paying you and getting you to be a teaboy.. then fuck it..
+ it looks like they got screenprints - i could fuck around with that for years.
if ur an intern chances are ur not freelancinc anyway (and if u are ur not that great)- ur probably just an undergrad - beef up ur portfolio - name drop a little - live a litte, try something new ( i showered with a friend!) enjoy design..
at this stage why does everything have to be about money??i got the rest of my life to worry about money.. right now my priority is to experience design from as many different prespectives as possible.
wether it is big brand labs, tiny interactive agencies, concpetual artists, screenprinters, pinstripers, interning at type foundries.. it doesnt matter.. u will invariably gain somethin that money wont buy.

hey oldelpaso... how is falmouth? I got accepted there on the illustration course, but turned it down... supposed to be top college?
Bit too close to where I lived though... so didn't feel right.
- oldelpaso0
falmouth is sweet man.
the bestANDwortst thing is its distance from londonyou have all the space, and none of the pretentiousness.. the surf, the really tight community anda TOP illustration course.. those kids blow me away everyday!
But you dont get any of the contact that the London Institue gets :(
how long ago were u thinking of enrolling? haha u a cornishboy? :) :)
yeah i know what u mean -
i got accepted at CSM and thought about Brighton - but id end up living at home - and with all the parties n stuff.. Uni isnt the time to live with ur parents! :)

I believe it is actually illegal to not pay your artists --whether they're internships or not.
Pay your interns, keep them happy.
