Emulsion on Canvas

Hi all
I've recently taken to painting canvases as an antidote to 10 hours in front of a mac everyday. Already made two (marker pen on a water based emulsion background) and am pretty happy with them, until someone mentioned the emulsion would crack off after a year or so - is this true? Also I was wondering if it was worth priming the canvas (something I vaguely remember from art college). Any advice is greatfully recieved - many thanks y'all :)

hard to say if your emulsion will crack without seeing it, but if its hard like epoxy and spread thin on canvas, quite likely it will over time as the fibres shrinks and expands.
if you're experimenting with materials safer to work on board rather than canvas.
properly priming any material is always a good idea if your concerned about adhesion.

That seems to make sense, cheers dude. I guess as the emulsion is water based it'll dry hard and eventually crack as the canvas expands/contracts unlike oil or acrylic which should in theory strettch with it... Think I'll try a spray paint base next and have a look into the priming game. :)

Ad some PVA to it

..use gesso.
I used emulsion several times and had problems with it both with and without pva.
For all the the hard work you put into working on your canvas....why scrimp on the foundation?

Thanks for the tip mate, sounds like good stuff as I can tint it with system 3 acrylic which I already have. Also it's an excuse for me to pop out to the art shop in soho :)
