hard to say if your emulsion will crack without seeing it, but if its hard like epoxy and spread thin on canvas, quite likely it will over time as the fibres shrinks and expands.
if you're experimenting with materials safer to work on board rather than canvas.
properly priming any material is always a good idea if your concerned about adhesion.
