In the tech/electronics trade press there's serious talk of considerably cheaper digital SLR prices by years end - say dropping down into point and click range - due to vendor oversupply and manufacturing streamlining...I'm holding off until then..

I was going to wait but I'm going to Europe in a few weeks and only have one slr at the moment. Have a few jobs coming up that will pay for these cameras plus change. Once you have had a slr you will never look at p&s again.

i kinda figured that there's always going to be the next best thing in cameras, just around the corner... so i just got it.

i received my 400d last week. i opted to spend the extra money on a lens and i'm still playing with it to see if it was a good decision (i got the 24-70mm f2.8L, btw).
any suggestions or tips from anyone who has either of these?

Nice photos, I like contrasty shots. I like to get my home brew on too. Do you do a single stage fermentation then run it through a keg/c02 setup like me or are you an old school two stage fermenter? (gets the bubbles in the bottle)

400D

you get the 400 you'll only want to upgrade in a few months to the 30D
save your money, get the 30D or really go long and get the 5D

(Mar 18 07, 15:01)i use that lens w/ a 5D and absolutely love it. i'm guessing that it's more like 35mm for you though, with the increased crop factor?

one of the best lenses you can get is the 50mm f1.8
it's stupidly cheap but produces fantastic results
- subversve0
yes, it's about 36mm, but i'm new to all of this so it'll take a while for me to realize that the ramifications are. i was just looking for a good multipurpose lens so that i wouldn't have to keep changing them. it's a bit bigger than i though it would be, but i'm happy with the results. any tips with regard to its use?

5D - best camera ever
- forcetwelve0
thats what ive ordered shutdown. the 50mm. cant wait to get it.

i think the 5D is a bit out of the price bracket guys... the 400D provides great results for the price, and if you're using it for general shooting it's great.

I am guessing the 400d is the xt or xti? I think I am going to end up getting one of these too. Im not sure I can really justify spending more money for the 30d, i'd sooner just invest in a better quality lens package.
