i successfully stopped smoking years ago.
stopping is different than quitting.
people who quit put a date on that motion and begin counting their shelf life of not smoking til the day they will start again.
its a mental head state, to stop liek you never smoked in the first place..so if someone asks you if you smoke , you dont say, ues i just quit, you say no i dont smoke, like you never did in the first place...
good luck and smoke weed instead!!

--------------------it happens about once a month, so i go thru about half a pack a year :)

something along the lines of getting a gang of NTers to try to commit to quitting with me and keeping the thread going.

(Mar 9 07, 07:06)just man up and admit you are powerless against the MOD
maybe try smoking some "natural" cigarettes as the days pass?
it's unfair, the hold the 135 extra chemicals in cigarettes can have on you.
i quit cold turkey, the first two weeks are the hardest
leah, i dunno, but your 9 month cravings might be as much boredom and spite of having to quit for your child (not so much yourself), but scientifically, it is said you should have cleared the "urges" stage months ago
good luck to both of you :D

i've never been addicted, but i have noticed with most of my friends, it's like their addicted to having something to do the second something gets boring or unsavory... like an easy exit, without having to think too hard or creatively about what to do next

i used to smoke 4 packs a day every day for 17 years continously, i followed every action i took with a cig.
since i have stopped i have regained my sense of taste, and smell aas the nicoteen kills all that.
part of what really helped me was that when i started to smell the stench of cigs, it lingers in clothing and gives off nasty breath.
its something i have grown to hate, whic hvery much helped in the stopping part.
i used to think that alcohol and weed and food was conencted to smoking as my addiction showed how i needed that after each and everything i ever did.
oncve i also realized it has nothing to do with the things i do i became so much stronger on my threshhold against picking up a pack and lighting it to fun times.
i dont miss it at all and when i walk thru manhattan and i am under all the scafolding that hold s the scent and the smog of the cigs in it i gag and smile that i am not one of them anymore.
good luck to all who smoke, i wish you the best in stopping forever, its a very nasty habbit and you smell real bad too!!!

wow e-pill, that was a heavy habit. good for you for quitting and regaining your senses, so to speak.
i'm glad that we have a smoking ban in colorado now...i don't have to smell it while eating or having a drink. i can't stand it anymore.
- e-pill0
the smoking ban in nyc also helped to stop, plus the price of cigs went from $2.18 a pack to $8.50 in a maatter of a year during that time...i think the price of cigs dropped to like $6.75 each or something...
i am happy i am also not spending all that money and saving it instead for things like vacations.
if you can stop smoking cigs you can do anything!!
:)
