inhouse generally get more than in a design Co.
Senior in house I would look for £30k at least

these threads always amuse me. 5 years experience, nowhere near the figure being quoted in the "you're serious??!?!?1!" bracket.
35K, skt, fucking nora

right, it's time to post this:
it was from design week about a year ago I believe.
So for you with 2 years experience outside of london in digital/print you could expect between 15-20k, which is between junior and midweight. If you take over from a senior then you still only have 2 years experience so you couldn't command as much as someone with 5/6 years ie a senior.

cheers Baskerville thats great.

my problem is im going to be taking on the role of a senior so surely that would mean I would have an increase due to increase resposibility.

(Mar 6 07, 06:50)not necessarily. You should be paid according to your ability and experience. I suppose after a while of proving yourself you can expect more.
You have to ask, why are they getting a junior to replace a senior?
You have to realise this is nothing to do with the quality of your work. You have a 1st class degree and a masters. But you lack experience which is worth a lot. It annoys me too, as I am more able than the seniors in my studio but that's just the way it works.
Your company may be different. If I were you I'd get as much as I could! Screw the 'norm' it's every man for himself!

I started my current gig well underpaid, but the company is cool, told the boss I'd do 3 months at that rate and talk to him again once he'd seen what I was worth to the company.
got a 66% raise.
- springbok0
cool thanks for the advice guys
- kezza_20
you dont fancy a gig in London do you. we are looking for 3 designers
- springbok0
where abouts are you kezza?and what are the rates?

I agree it goes on experience in the industry. Responsibility means nothing, but you work longer for generally less.
I have just spoke to a pal of mine who works at a big agency in Manchester....You'd have to CHASE them them to get in, if you catch who im on about. His rough estimate of wages would go something like....
1-3 years JUNIOR - (Whatever the qualifications) - £12-18k
3-5 Ye exp - Middleweight - 18-25k
5 - xx+ Yrs exp - Senior 25K++++
Obviously there are exceptions to this for amazing people but I hope that helps?
Mt first job out of uni I was taken on (as a Junior) to replace a senior designer who'd just left. Que 14 hour days 6 days a week for 7k.
It's really crap we all know, as you can go and work in a office at 18 with no bloody decent skills and get 23k......Maybe we should all sack this game of and learn how to use word and other Microsoft products to make things look shit??
- Baskerville0
hey kez, need any print/branding designerns, I'm in london and looking!

Up north salaries go up and down. Depends on who they are and if their tight bastards or not.
2 years agency experience might get you up to 22 maybe?? depending on who it is. If its inhouse, exp wont mean to much to an agency, unless your billy the kid.
do contract work, you can get upto £30 an hour for a 3 month contract.... that will set you up for the rest of the year,

Cheers HomeCreative, so you dont happen to know this guys email address which you could accidently email me and nothing else will be said.
