This morning at our office both our Fax Machine and Printer went on the fritz - both Brother machines, both were bought on the same day from Staples exactly one year and one week ago. The Fax machine is now showing a big giant black streak down the middle of anything we scan through it, and the printer's memory seems to keep overflowing and returning error messages and consequently not printing a damn thing. Spent one hour and a half on their tech support line this morning with Mr. Friendly Bombay Dude who talked me through all the stupid procedures in the operating manual which I already tried and kept telling him I did already, but he insisted I had to do them "properly with him on the line" for him to further assist me.

After running through all of this shit 'Steve' aka 'Sanjay' tells me there are software glitches in both machines and that we'll have to send them for repair- and oh look at that, we're sorry they're both just out of warranty coverage.

    Fuck you Brother. Fuck you.

Another day in the life...at least you have stuff to print. Me, i'm flat-lining bored. Nae work to speak of all week. Then of course next week will be a mad dash to meet 15 deadlines once the holding pattern ceases.

Am I an anomaly or does that happen to others here as well? I occasionally have a string of manageably busy days when I get home in time to exercise & have a leisurely dinner with the wife; other times I have shite to do for a week and then the next week is 80 hours of solid hustle.

Probably a silly question considering the number of lurkers who seem to not be 33 yr. olds living in their parents' basement.

    :/

    Are they HP?

Doesn't matter. Most printers have an internal timer/page count. When it's up 'zap' and your printer is broken.

Look online on how to reset their counter but I've heard this can be tricky.

Search Gizmodo for this. An insider from there posted a bunch of bullshit secrets about printers and such within the past two months. HP i think it was.

    TheBlueOne,

That is why you use equipment vendors with on-site support, if it's available.

We just got a Sharp MX-5500 N in my Marketing department, color laser printer copier scanner, the thing was nearly $30,000. Excellent finishing features, saddle stitching, booklet maker, able to use a huge range of papers and weights.

Solid colors are coming out fine, but the B&W photos we use in attorney bio pages are coming out terrible. No better than the previous Sharp we had since 2000.

The solution to my problem with the photos? They tell me to re-edit ALL my original photo files (80 attorneys here), and save the TIF's as non-layered, flattened files, EVEN when the BG layer is white, the area around the head has been cut out.

They actually told me jpg's will work better when printing... when we've had better success with TIF's in the long run.

All my 2 layered TIF files worked FINE on the old printer. Quality was OK, we expected it to be tons better on the new one.

Anyhow, long story short, we've had this for nearly a month, so many issues with the Fiery, but we have support guys come by as often as we need them whether they are hardware, IT, or other aspects.

I couldn't even begin to imagine the headache from only using phone support.

    Oh Brother, they are shit.

I bought a Brother fax machine a couple of years back, after being talked out of spending a bit of time and money sorting out a proper computer fax solution.

Big mistake. Absolute illogical pile of shit - I think it only had memory capacity for 5 faxes, or something, which over a weekend would get filled with junk faxes and then not accept any proper ones. The bloody thing even used ink ribbons - INK RIBBONS! We're in the Third millennium, for crissakes!

Thank you for comisserating Nairn!! Fuck Brother!!!
