I got an STM Glove sleeve. Something like incase, probably snuggier.

I was getting a lot of dust from "proper computer bags" before, now I just zip it up in the neoprene sleeve and throw it into my messenger bag or a backpack safely.

awesome review e-pill.
KATA is unreal. they are so awesomely made it makes you wonder about other bags you have for gear. i used to have 2 when i was doing tons of video work and the quality is unmatched.
north face shit has gone *way* downhill in recent years (as you stated). they used to be rad when they were made in the US in SW Colorado, but no more- they are very cheap, IMO.
couple you did not mention that fall inline w/ above 2 in a way;
Marmot- dope, dope, dope. they do not make a laptop bag, so not sure why i am including them, but they have awesome construction and policies on failures.
Burton- e-pill may disagree w/ me here due to their construction methods (he may know more than i), but they have been making great bags fr years and years. they have awesome warrenty that is effective globally, and their prices are rad. i rock 2 of these as well and have used one *exclusively* for business w/ all electronics, laptop, etc for 2 years globally and it is the shit. IMO, awesome bags.
Oh!- forgot one. : )
Dana Designs- these guys used to sew for North Face (when they actually gave a shit) and are still making rad stuff. my wife has one of their laptop-specific backpacks and i covet it everytime she uses it. this one:

now, they were bought by Marmot/K2 last year so they are not availble 'new' as they are all Marmot now, but if you can score one of those above (and like backpacks) it is awesome.good luck.

burton bags are some of the worst i have ever seen.
in terms of cold weather protection or styling on the outside they can look nice, open them up and its usually 1 main compartment with little to no real thinking towards organization on the inside like its generic.
you would think that from a vendor that produces a high quality apparel product could pull off an accessory item.
everytime i shop in burton thinking i can see some new idea technique i always end up just leaving their store as i find nothing really innovative or really functional.
they can produce boards, but for bags i would shop a very different vendor. especially if your laptop is what is going inside as none of their bags have any laptop sleeve area that provides protection.
but if you like burton, dont listen to what i dont like...

wow, very interesting to hear from someone directly in this industry- thanks a bunch dude.
i really have to disagree, however. the bag i have is one of the best thought-out designs for a mobile professional (sorry, had to come up with some term;) i have used/seen. it has a dedicated laptop sleeve, and as default, i *never* trust that padding only as enough protection- regardless. i always use an additional laptop-specific sleeve that then goes inside the bag.
it has well thought out compartments, contruction has held up through;
- andes
- jungle
- dessert
- thieves
- urban abuse
- countless airports/planes
- my dog
- my car
- being overstuffed w/ boks and laptopoverall, from a user experience perspective/report, i could not be happier. i do appreciate the insights though from you man.

nice!! as i was stating it really comes down to individual personal preferences, and each consumer will use each pack in a different manner as the contents will differ.
but yes, never trust the "selected" area where a laptop may go, always try to use a separate sleeve for your electronic devices.
no bag can fully protect, but it also comes down to the user and their actions as well in how they use it.
also i am not a direct costumer of Burton in the usages in real life, i purchase bags weekly, for shape and body constrtuction so when i send an idea to the factories then can see an allready cut pattern to figure out what i am designing.
