I have the solution u require.
Go to Radio Shack or whatever u have in Europe...
Get the cable that has the headphone jack on one end, and the other end is a RCA cable (red & white)...
Plug the headphone end into your laptop, plug the other end of the cable (the RCA side) into your Reciever/amp/Mixer/etc and voila.
Cheap...probably less than 5 bucks or euros...

well said. just use a splitter.

it works for listening or playing music but you still need a split output for cueing mixes in the headphones.

I use traktor to DJ and I use the Griffin iMic to output to headphones and it works great: http://www.griffintechnology.com…
plus its only $40.

(Feb 26 07, 15:10)does that allows you to have different sound outputs though?
like previewing on laptop, mix on speakers?I dont know man.. that is just to cheap.. looks nice though

Yeah, when you plug it in your mac recognizes it as a sound card. so when you go into your preferences in traktor, you set the cue audio (or preview or whatever) to the iMic USB audio interface and plug your headphones into it. Now your headphones are controlled by the cue volume levels and when you preview a track in your playlist. Have your main output set to core audio (or main audio) and plug your live output into your headphone jack. Ive been doing it for about 2 years now and havent run into a problem yet.

I use ableton with an M audio card, but run it all through a mixer, so preview tracks on a mixer as per using vinyl. Feels nicer that way for me anyways.

what controllers has anyone here tried?
Faderfox? M-Audio?
i know there are a few others?

ninjasavant..
I might check it out.. never even heard about it..
- Meeklo0
faderfox looks nice, might be a bit expensive..
m-audio's construction might not be the best.
Edirol or Korg are solid, behringer are good too

I concurr with ninjasavant.
iMic is great and does the job perfectly.

Never tried a controller....quite fancy it as I keep having to organise my keys to fire clips and whatnot, and if I had to play without a mixer, I'd be screwed. What I'm waiting for is the iPhone esque screen with a full mixer controlled by touch....come on ableton what you waiting for!?!?!

my 2 cents: i use ableton, m-audio and a behringer controller. i recommend that behringer bcr theyre not expensive & you can fully customize your controls to meet your own needs.

using a splitter is all well and good if you are using a high-end macintosh with clean power. any other PC will introduce "crosstalk" (ie computer sounds of glitching and electronic burbling, not pretty) into the audio output. this will be extremely noticeable on a club soundsystem.
get an external audio interface.

I use an evolution midi keyboard. I bought it way back to teach myself to play keyboard, now i just use it cuz it has 16 programmable knobs.

get an audio interface..
there are usb / fw and I even saw one that is PCMIA

go with Serato Scratch Live, you have separate audio outs for left and right turntables so you can cue up the music before mixing it in, and the vinyl links directly to the timecode so you can literally scratch MP3s.
ultra suave.
- ninjasavant0
yeah a splitter wouldnt work since it doesn't allow for cueing, just hearing whats live in 2 places

m-audio audiophile

this would work, right? this is the cheapest thing i could find...
