"Not voting voids your right to comment on policy"
Not if we the people, en mass, refuse to participate in a system that obliges us to choose a candidate who we do not want to be in the Prime ministership.
In the days when people fought for the right to vote, to not use that vote was wrong. But that was a long time ago. I believe to vote for soemone whom you already know to be unfit for purpose is a far worse moral crime. If the nation could all refuse to vote in high enough numbers it would bring about a catalyst for political change. Otherwise, we just keep voting for the least terrible chump and the system slides ever downward at our expense and their gain.

you can't stop it, so why bother? the powers that be could give a shit less about us. they're into making money and more money. who they step on is of no concern.

Ah...Star Wars is soooo 80's. The next decade will be about Rail Guns and Massive Space payloads dropped onto cities fomr space.
Did you guys see this video of the US Navy test firing it's ship mounted railgun?

You CAN stop it, if you stop participating in it. If you stop participating in it, they have to stop becuase the sole thing they have is that they are the democratically elected representative... our leader. Who you going to vote for... Brown? The Tory bloke? a LibDem?... maybe a "Tactical vote for the Greens" ?... what a fucking mess we'll be in when they finally take the top table becuase we thought it was smarter than voting for the other two.
VOTE FOR NO-ONE. ANYTHING ELSE VOIDS YOUR RIGHT TO COMMENT ON WORLD AFFAIRS.

Studiospooky, as much as I share a small modicum of your enthusiasm & hope for citizen based change in the political sphere, military programs run at a different cycle (twenty years or so, from development to implementation, whereas elections get new people in every four years?)) and are based on vast sums of money from powerful globalized corporations. One election will not stop this shit from happening.

One failed election and the whole thing collapses. Not for you over there I should point out. If you fail to vote George Bush will just declare it a national emergency and state that is unwise for him to vacate the seat until its all sorted out, but over here, if we don't vote in large enough numbers, there will be huge impact.
