babies and funerals at the top of the pile...
the great cycle of life visits the pvn.

get all the sleep you can right now...in 9 months or so it's alllll over...
start getting the baby room ready.
other than that, enjoy any freetime you have right now...just like sleep, it'll soon be over..
:)

Do nice things for yourselves: go on a trip (no flying for a few months though), go out to nice meals, enjoy sleeping in, etc.
All these things will seem like distant memories once the little one arrives.

babies are great. everyone will sleep dont worry. babies sleep a ton. rest when they rest. get em on a schedule early!
never feed them chicken after midnight.

• sleep now, cry later
• don't eat what your wife craves, or you'll end up looking like you're pregnant as well
• make sure wifey is taking all her vitamins and also essential fatty acids
• read up on what to expect; don't worry about those birthing classes and what not (unless you're a real paranoid type of person) mother nature does all the work.
• start buying diapers now. believe me, you can't have enough of those things.
• sand down all the edges on your furniture. Keeps the baby's head safe and your shins safe for when your running thru the house as he or she is crying in their room down the hall.
• Breast feed if possible. (mind out of the gutter here NT)
• take so many pictures you can't stand the sound of the camera anymore.
• take more pics after thatGood Luck!

I guess I should also refrain from naming it GIZMO!

arthur's got it right..
if you like going to movies, go often now...because unless you've got a nanny or live with your folks, it's pretty rare to be able to get out in the evenings...
ditto for dinners out, dancing whatever....as for purchases for the baby, with any luck you'll be getting just about everything you need from the babyshowers...i dont' think we had to buy a damn thing for almost a year when our daughter was born...
also, if you have friends or relatives that have had kids recently, you can get in on the whole hand-me-down thing...saves a ton of cash...
if you live near either of your folks (and this one is a biggee) start thinking of the 'friday night' or sunday dinner thing...
example.
my wife and i bring the kids over to her folks and have a nice dinner there every friday..it's like a end of the week ritual...
what it does is basically allow us to unwind a bit..the grandparents get to play with the kids and my wife and i can chill out a bit and let them run around...plus it's nice not to have to cook dinner that night...this only really works if you get along well with the inlaws (and luckily mine are awesome...
also, start saving, and looking into education funds etc...university/college is going to be mighty expensive when they grow up...so start putting something aside for em now...
:)if your wife plans on returning to work after Mat leave...start looking into daycare/nanny's or whether you folks can watch the child during the day....
daycare/childcare is ridiculously expensive...so if you can possibly swing it, get the grandparents in on that action....

congrats to eb6 and sputnik.
advice: take care of mom (both of you!) and enjoy every second of it.
this fatherhood stuff is great, and the key is to just be patient.
i've got five 6-year-olds meeting in my woodshop tonight to build pinewood derby cars. how's that for a fun night with the guys?
- eb60
holy crap blaw you just brought back some memories. I can specifically remember doing that!
- -sputnik-0
eat lots of fish and try to continue regular low-impact exercise. it'll really help in the long-run.
oh and if she's a stomach sleeper, tell her to sleep on her stomach now that she still can!
