When you move your hosting to Dreamhost, will all the files (that were a part of the website) be moved over within a few days as well? Or do you have to upload everything all over again?

you must upload

interesting...
well, thanks. i've started already.

jaline, its nameservers with your registrar.
i have domains on mylanders and mt servers. i could put them all on one or the other but why?
here's how i do it though.
buy from godaddy, set nameserver during purchase. then I head over to mt and use my handy dandy add domain thingy.if i'm hosting it on mylanders, there's a little more work to do.
but
consider your website a box of stuff
well to get us all to look at your box of stuff, the nameserver has to be set for that box, if its not we'll never see it (Server not found). and if the box isn't there but the nameserver is set, 404 or no access to this server.
the nameserver is saying "hey for this domain, look at that 'box' there" so once you upload to your DH servers you will be using their bandwidth, and your old files even if you do not delete them will no longer be seen once the propagation has occurred
this is why during my migration, none of my sites went down. they are just cloned to the new server and the nameservers set.
once the name server takes effect it's no longer looking in that 'box' but this one instead
i hope that made sense

if you have shell accounts you can transfer from server to server

anyway, my local hosting company went down (one of the cons of being with a smaller company, no doubt), so I'm now fully with DH (I had one site there so far). I had to re-upload everything because changed the DNS before downloading my files. It was kind of good though since I had a lot of junk uploaded to my site anyway.

regardless of dns changes, you can always access your sites new/old by their IP address
- version30
ace, i don't think thats true in all hosting companies/cases
- acescence0
i suppose it depends on you have a unique ip versus lots of virtual domains on a single ip
- version30
true dat, as i have a bunch of virtuals at (mt)

but thanks for the help!
I still have some learning to do when it comes to domains and hosting.

Jaline - sorry to hijack your thread. How did you make your myspace page? With a layout generator or did you hand code it? Thanks!
- version30
she typed that shit in her sleep with her toes while she was wet dreaming, never ask a master their secrets
jaline, please tell me how you got all these people to swoon for your myspace, i'm starting to think people just don't like me
- Jaline0
haha, not sure. post yours around more (although...I only posted the link in the "post your website" thread so clearly I didn't need to post it everywhere).
...And I'm obviously not helping the situation.

jack, I hand-coded it.
I got inspiration from some of the codes from my friends pages:
http://myspace.com/pumping
http://myspace.com/r_o_m_e_sand doing A LOT of google searches for how to manipulate MySpace.
