does anyone have any copies or examples of some great creative cover letters? I am have been in the market for a job for a while, and I jut want to see if I am doing everything right. I feel that the cover letter that I have is good, but I have been told that it sounds forced. I am not the best whet it comes to writing, but I feel that my strong points are in my design and creativity, and I just need to get over this cover letter "hump." So I just want to see what some others have used in the past, or currently. I have checked Google, and also I ran through all the usual searches, so I figured to maybe ask you guys and see what comes up! Thanks in advance for the help!

i don't read the covers letters, they are all so fake-sounding... and i really don't care, anyway.
does anyone anymore? i prefer a resume and work samples, anything else is a waste of my time.

I totally agree with you, I think they are an old time way of introduction, and I also agree that they seem so fake. I FEEL fake when I write one, and it sucks, because I thought that the whole purpose of the interview and intro to a company was being YOURSELF, y'know? However, as much as I would love to do this, I just can't respond to a job posting that requires a cover letter with, "I am not giving you a cover letter because they suck, so sorry pal". Totally with you one hundo percent barbastic.

i have never granted anyone an interview based on a cover letter, but i have definitely not called people based on the stupidity of their cover letter...
if you must write one, keep it brief and be yourself

right. It just sucks, because some people say to write them the standard way (like 4 concise paragraphs), and others, like yourself, say to be brief. I think its a total waste of time, and I really don't know which route to go... So I guess no one has any examples then....

Dear future employer:
If you don't hire me and I become a huge design star your going to look back and say, "I wouldnt be out on the streets if I had hired that guy..."So without further ado, heres my work:

if you are applying for a design job...then..id say...write something short, concise, and to the point. design is about the work. if its for some corp. job...write yourself a lame cover letter.

nice link studdernine...
i've been applying for jobs all week and most of mine have been short and to the point unless they were to large studios or magazines. in my experience of meeting with people at worldwide agencies to small shops, the smaller ones always have more of a sense of humor.
anyone hiring in NYC on that note?

you designers out there have it tough. interviews, resumes and work. plus the millions of others who are "designers". good luck to ya!

your cover letter wont get you the job, it's your portfolio.
Let your work do the talking.

interesting topic. I would say try to use their language as much as possible. so if their website has a playful tone, then adjust your cover letters tone accordingly.
respond to their way of writing, I dont deal with people that write like assholes, or make it sound like you have to be designer-jesus himself to work with them.
fuck those nut jobs.
