ok im working on a flash movie and it runs totally fine on my computer and several friends.. but i tested it on one person's workstation, and the one i'm currently on.. and the flash makes the CPU usage skyrocket to 100% and slows to a crawl.. the workstation im on is only windows2000 with 1.60ghz and 512mb ram, and flash 8 installed. however, NO other flash movie makes this system crawl, or my buddy's.
i cant imagine what it could be.. its not even crazy, it's just a navigation with animation in the background. the only things i used in it are the Tween class in actionscript, and i have one timeline motion tween which runs for like 3500 frames (at 24 FPS) because its a long graphic that slowly slides up fading in the background.
is that big of a motion tween what's killing these 2 computers? i dont understand..

Why not remove the tween and see what happens?

if you are using the tween class to shift a bunch of images it will drag. if you use alpha tweens that really kills it if there are a lot of overlays and such. also if you use any of the flash 8 effects it will also begin to pull it down.
any and all of those could be causing the slowdown though. also, you are sure you aren't running some messed code? probably not if you said it works on most machines.

nah im sure my code is fine, if anything i know that is sound. im guessing it must be the giant motion tween, because now that i recall it IS set to Multiply blend mode, and has like 17% alpha.. im just not at my normal computer for a bit so i cant screw with the FLA to test.
thanks... thats a shame cause i really liked the effect i had with crazy faded debris gliding up in the background

"to Multiply blend mode, and has like 17% alpha.. "
yeah man, that will kill a lot of older/less powerful machines if it is a substantial size.
i was doing some tests with the tween class as well as mixing some of the 8 effects...usually had horrid results :\

have you tried turning on bitmap caching?
not really sure what that does but might work on animation stuff
- lvl_130
we used bitmap cache to snap a shot of the screen and drop it upon transitions from sections in the site. helped tremendously! victor is the A.S. man!

yep, i am using bitmap caching but i guess its simply too large an effect for these older computers..it seems like a total black and white problem, it either works flawlessly or horribly.. heh

odd. the site seems to be down at the moment :\
well it looked like this
