i once thought it was worth my time to come up with definitions. Success with both requires conceptual and technical acuity, as well as a sense of history and an eye toward the future.
Art encompasses so much, and design is encompassing more and more each day...
All i care about is that my career gives me an opportunity to think and create and solve problems and be useful.

i remember in art school how the designers were shunned as sell-outs, were always being told what to do and never had time to party.
now they all have great paying jobs while all the fine art kids work min wage jobs

well, I think a designer can be an artist but an artist can't be a designer. The way I see it, designers can create art because they feel like it but they can also create something for a client (which means respecting restrictions and stuff). So basically, a designer is much more versatile than an artist.
