WOW! I went home for the weekend and come back to a great response. Thanks for the feedback. MBP it is. Now if only Adobe was releasing CS3 sooner :)

mbp and 24" dell. i've got the same set up and it's great. i wouldn't go with a 30' i think that's just too big.
johndiggityi have the mbp and love it.
And am thinking about the 24" dell monitor, too

the beta version of PS actually runs superb on my mbp. once the whole CS3 suite is out, i'm hoping that they all run as well as photoshop. if you have CS2 right now, you can download the photoshop beta.

Applecare or no Apple care? It's a few hundred $ and I could use that towards RAM. I think I'm just going to get the stuff installed at the store vs. buying 3rd party memory. Not that it's hard but I just don't feel like going through it all and I can get up and running fast.

from the posts here it seems there have been a lot of problems with the mpb.
i'd take apple care.

MBP - I have 15" with Dell 24" monitor. 3GB RAM. I've got an external disc drive because I partitioned the internal 160GB drive into two 80GB and have windows on one and OSX on the other. At the moment using windows with Flash/PS until CS3 comes out will then most likely switch to OSX. Although windows is still important for testing - so will no doubt keep the dual booting system. I have parallels on OSX for testing which is great if set for 1024x768 screen res cause then I can see what space most other peeps have on their machines.
Good set up - forget the tower - the MBP gives you more space at your desk.

I was just hitting Craigslist... any opinions on new vs. used?
- MediaPimp0
if you buy used.. make sure you can go and test it first... just to make sure it's in good condition and everything works fine.
I just sold my iMac and MacBook on Craigslist and bought a MacBook Pro. I let both buyers come and test the machines before making the purchase. Make sure to ask why they're selling and possibly proof of purchase to make sure you're not buying stolen property.
If everything checks out fine and the owner treated their machine nicely, then it's a smart buy for a lower price.

i didn't get applecare. i told the sales rep 'i'd get it just before 1yr warranty will run out'
why? because i can put that $300 into some investment and probably make some money on it. so why put the money into something i am covered for already for a year?
- Meeklo0
I did the same thing..
you have a full year to buy applecare...
- myobie0
yeah, wait a year
but don't forget
i had to rip a ibook apart to put a new hdd in it once...sucked hard
took 5 hours and it's got all kinds of scratches on it
