Anyone ever hear the story about the lyrics to 'In The Air Tonight'?
There's this whole story about Phil's younger brother getting pushed under a frozen lake when they were kids and then Phil finding the guy who did it years later (who'd moved away to New York), and singling him out with a spotlight at a show in Madison Square Gardens with all the lights off as he premiers that song. The guy apparently hung himself afterwards. Not true, but wicked to freak someone out when you hear that song on the radio – anyone got any different versions?

Not really but that instantly reminded me of V.I.N.C.E.N.T. pulling out B.O.B from the rubbage in the original Black Hole movie.

Mate of mine who told me the story tried to get tickets to see genesis – nine hundred UK pounds for a pair. Obviously on some tout website, but fucking HELL that's a lot of money.

a few of my friends and i were on our way to a beach a few years back when the song came on. my buddy was like 'i heard this song is about when phil collins was out to sea on his yacht and saw a murder take place on another boat. when they both got to shore, collins invited the guy backstage to his show and when the guy got there, he was arrested.' and, just as he finished that story, the DJ prematurely faded out the song and was like 'that was 'in the air' tonight by phil collins. people think this song is about collins watching a murder on his boat and then taking matter into his own hands, but they are wrong. it is actually about his bitter divorce.'
so we all start laughing loudly in the car and pointing to the kid who told us the story in jest. and one of my buddies was like "it was almost like the DJ was listening to you and was like (waving his arms) 'whoah! whoah! whoah!' (mimics turning down the levels)"
it was pretty hysterical. i still get a kick out of that story.
