I don't want to get too excited about this, but I am looking forward to it. It looks like a return to classic, well-thought out sci-fi, like a cross between 2001 and Event Horizon. The minimal character dialogue aspect sounds intriguing too - the voice of a lone commentator, solitary, lost in space.
And what's wrong with the site? It's one of the best movie sites I've seen of late, imo - no huge shitty flash file and overwrought graphics to contend with, but loads of content and production goodies all laid out in an easy nav. = good, in my book.

ok i went too far saying it was terrible to be fair... but my qualm is it's too wide, i get a horizontal scrollbar which i find annoying (1024x768 res), and i think it's too busy, an overlod of information, at a glance (1st impression) i don't know where to look, and so I (personally) lose interest and move on...?

Hey, Overeasy - wr'you involved in the re-jig of the Sunshine site?
On the language options screen - I do not live in the United 'Knigdom'!
Slick job - though I miss all the content from the original site :(

Hi Nairn, that was me in disguise when I first came out to the states.

We didn't have anything to do with the front end. Just the explore section.

aha! I thought it was one of the oldskoolers wot done it - nice work, man - but, is it a game? What am I doing? I can't realign shields nor access the airlock (I appear to have shut it off) - but I don't know why?
All I wanted was some updated production and release chatter..

It's funny they named the spaceship Icarus.

Well I got to see the film last week, and I was just a little disappointed. The CGI was very good, great attention to detail.
The story-line just let the hole film down, and do not even get me started on the ending of the movie, just a real lack of any originality at all.
And what was with the space-suits, they just looked bloody stupid.

i saw it last night and i thought it was absolutely terrible.
it's so fucking frustrating when science fiction just refuses to even TRY anymore.
fortunately, there was some epileptic japanese tourist in our theatre who didn't understand the signs saying not to watch this film if you're epileptic, so he had a seizure in the middle and we all got comps. thank god i didn't end up paying 13 quid for that, i'd feel truly truly stomped all over by boyle et.al.

epileptic tourist is fine, by the way. that wasn't a heartless thing to say at all. and we totally asked after him when we left the cinema. well, one of my party did...

paraselenehahaha to funny. At least you got you money back.

absolutely terrible is a bit harsh I think, it works as a spectacle, but I was really let down by the story line too - its a kind of identikit attempt to take sci-fi back to where Kubrick put it, but really its just a mash of cliches strung together by some very very wicked imagery of the sun (some really good "not just the cgi" shots involving this as well).
I enjoyed it on one level but yeah, it was disappointing. Nothing new in what it was saying. shame.

it was the 'i've been talking to god for seven years' fiery demon bloke who used to belong to the old crew that pushed it into the absolutely terrible realm for me.
to paraphrase mr. para, if you're going to go the metaphysical route, you really can't afford to be sloppy. this wasn't harrowing, just hamfisted.
that coupled with some dire overacting from the american cast and all the very lazy poaching of tropes from 2001 and E.H. really put me off.
but, yes, the sun stuff was gorgeous and the spaceships were rad. i should've walked out right when that guy seizured - it was just before the suicide, and i think the film chose the wrong fork in the road after that point.

I thought it was alright! Not as good as 28 days later or othe rbits of boyle's work but it definitely had something going on that I liked.
I liked all the blurry bits of the 'bad guy' at the end too, made it more confusing and 'first person'....it would have been good to have found out more about that though.
Soundtracked by Karl Hyde of Underworld no less too, and a good job.
But Event Horizon is still better, and probably one of the darkest films I've seen!
- waynepixel0
It was funny, because that same night I watch ALEAN for the first time in years, and it still amazes me how original and fresh the film is, also there was a real lack of attention to detail when it come too the interior shot in the film SUNSHINE compared to ALIAN, and it is things like the attention to detail which you just cannot do without. SUNSHINE just missed an opportunity, missed the boat, missed the hole fucking planet.
- JerseyRaindog0
It was half a good movie. I give it 6/7 out of 10. Preferred it to Event Horizon though which was dull dull dull.
Mind you I like the original Tarkovsky Solaris so I must like slow moody sci-fi.
