Don't say that!
My 19" CRT was fine, I wanted the Dell 20" WFP and now have it, but I could still return it and have some $$ towards building a new comp.
I priced out the following from Tiger Direct at $865 before shipping:
Core2 Duo E6400 and Motherboard - $335
SATA 250GB Drive - $80
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 memory - $115
Power supply and CPU fan - $80
PCI-E video card - $80
Came to around $600 something.
Trying to get a new freelance project and then I'll build that afterwards.

building your own is definitely the way to go if you know what you're doing.
i build a bunch a long time ago and it was super cheap. we only had problems with one of the computers freezing up on occasion, but i think it had something to do with the user, not the computer. he had so much spyware on his compuer it was choking the cpu to death.

building is easy, in fact, I've only built one but am rather confident I could do it again with no instructions.
ground yo bad self
put power supply in case
attach mboard
install cpu and fan
connect other internals and memory
plug it in
turn that sumbitch on and zoom!Of course then you install your OS and spend the next 8 hours tweaking it to kingdom come and really tearing your hair out.

actually the first one i built i didn't ground myself and i set off a huge spark on the inside when putting it together. i have no idea what i touched but i was afraid after i turned it on it wouldn't work.
it actually worked fine but from there on out i grounded myself before working on them.

Running on my new work machine right now. Seems pretty fast, will see in a few days when I get everything installed. But had no problems with the build, install everything in the case, turn it on, posted and on my way. I might OC it a bit this weekend... just to see how it goes
