seriously, how do I do this? What software do I need? I've even tried to export to a Quicktime movie from the Export menu in Flash, but it never works; only the first frame exports...
Do I need to get QuickTime Pro or something else? Any insight would be great because I've never done this before and I'm feeling like a straight n00b...

are all your animation done with keyframes? If not you might need director

Screen capture would work as well. Last time I had to use it I dragged the result into Adobe Premiere and cut out the 'trial version' crap it put at the top.
swf2avi is alright, but it can drive you mad because it's buggy as fuck. And you have to convert all frames into .bmp (it says it can do .jpg but it never worked for me)

Damn G, flash question cheating on me with the PVN eh? I guess my 50% comment must have hurt your feelings.
;)
Seriously though, on the mac i think Director is the only option. Windows has some crappy apps that get the job done.

yah, Windows crapplications

ugh, this is not sounding pretty. Sounds like I need to grab a copy of Final Cut or Premiere and start reading or something... I might actually have Director on my almost 6 year old G4 at home. I didn't know it would be this involved... anyone know why exporting to QT from Flash doesn't seem to work? Am I the only one with this problem? I've tried to Google that, only to read about people having a successful time doing it which makes me even angrier.

oh yeah, caseyc,
fuck your couch.
- caseyc0
My couch is fucked. :(
Flash's QT Export is limited to the main timeline. So if you do all your animation there it will export, you can also use Graphic symbols since they get flattened to the main timeline.
Try exporting this fla:

Do a right click save as on that link. sorry.

yep. all animation has to be on the main timeline or it will not work. MCs are not recognized.....

What is in the flash file? Is it a video or just flash stuff?
You could use some sort of screen capture program to record it. or use one of those http://www.winavi.com/swf-to-avi…
programs - Last time I did that I handed the swf off to the video guy to do it through his Avid.

thanks for the help guys. The more I dig into these "rich flash experiences" the more I realize I shoulda stayed in school and got my illustration degree so I could just be painting cowboy scenes in a 1 bedroom apt. somewhere in New Mexico.

I suggest you use Moyea SWF to Video converter Pro, it can convert swf/flash to avi ,mpeg, wmv,mp4,mp3,3gp etc.

that's easy you can use adobe media encoder

Make sure all your animation is on the main timeline - no movie clips.
If it is in movie clips export a swf - then import that swf into a new movie with the right settings and then export.

no one seems to have mentioned the fact that you can export the movie until x number of seconds have passed. Will this not sort your problem out? Will have to be a .mov, but you can easily convert.

and noone mentioned that this thread is from 2007 and just got bumped by some spammer promoting some converter soft nobody needs. and flash movie export 2007 != flash movie export 2011
