i read 'solutions' in your websites introtekst Januario. quick, go change it!
simplistic article though.

the irony is that this article is completely unnecessary and pointless, he himself created a 'problem' that did in fact not exist in order to satusfy his own desire for 'existentialism', a rather grandiose label to place on your own weak article in my opinion.
His article is like those paper sheets you put in your tumble dryer to prevent static, completely pointless and unnecessary, I mean - who ever had serious problems with having two socks stuck together?

like what you did there ;P

very Buddhist, and at the very least, an additional perspective on what we do and why. and we've all seen a thousand web and traditional companies talking about their work as 'solutions'-driven. that language is out there, and I think we can all agree that it's a bit odd.
I think the 'solutions' speak is all about selling something subjective to business people who lack vision and imagination

"There is of course work that was not designed to solve anything: ‘no problem’ work. One of my favourites is the Paris street sweeper’s broom with its perfectly copied twigs in fluorescent green plastic. There’s no reason for these ‘twigs’ to be such perfect simulations, other than to surprise and be funny."

when you're trying to get a raise, problem solver sounds better than fluff provider

(Jan 16 07, 04:51)Yes, it's a buzzword, or a euphemism, that is all. Instead of saying "We have two designs for you to look at," some people would rather say something like "solutions," becuase it sounds more high-end, or lofty. People love making things sound more important than they actually are.

there is that, but on another hand, design is a commercial enterprise that needs to be able to speak the language of the business they are dealing with.
Like he points out, not all deisgn is the same..its a big church. However, he seems to think that that is a point of weakness.

My brother was a "sandwich artist" at subway, and I jokingly called myself a "travel expediter" when I worked at a gas station for a summer :D

if you change all "Design" in the article to "Art" the article sounds right to me.
or maybe i have to redefine the word "Design". then i'm not a designer anymore.

you can call me "problem solving graphic charity worker" from now.

I hate that art v design crap. Its never ben resolved satisfactorily for my liking.

frank lloyd wright once said, an architect with out a client not an architect.
Can a designer be a designer with out clients? If your purpose was to create something that had no boundaries except your own, would you be an artist?
One of the most challenging project for a designer is when they are forced up on to create beautiful things that convey message or theme with boundaries set by others including style and thought.
Great designers has a style of their own but the constantly create new ones for the clients.
