(Jan 13 07, 11:02)The Earth isn't going anywhere you egotistical fool. You're just acting on the fear they feed you for their politics. The Earth is going through a normal cycle. For every specie lost and extinct is another newly born and created. Go save a leaf and burn a christian you tit. (I'm not Christian, I just thought it would be funny if I threw that in.)

Production Sharing Agreements = The spoils of war.

The common misconception is that oil is only used in American cars for gasoline.
Cutting oil production would mean you cut it for plastics, candle wax, milk cartons, polishes, paints, medicines while some, such as penicillin, are made by organisms, but most are manufactured from chemicals, and many of these are made from petroleum products. Compact discs and casette tapes ae made using petroleum products. All plastic products (many of the materials used to make the clothes you wear, or the carpet you walk on, plus hundreds of the other products we take for granted) are made from petrochemicals. As the name implies, a main ingredient in petrocehmicals is oil. Detergent. Plant Fertilizer. Pen ink. Canned goods. Your shoes.
I'd love to see someone try and cut anything that comes from oil out of their daily lives to help save the world.
And btw, from 1997 - 2001 the Alaskan pipeline has spilled almost 7 barrels of oil. Then there was a big 6000 barrel spill a few years later when some drunk idiot shot a hole into a weld of the pipeline rupturing it. Yes, almost all of the pipeline needs to be replaced but without it, we'd be back in the stone age. That's the cold hard truth.

so basically, just stick with the status quo and you will be doing alright.

Sao Tome & Principe sitting on a diamond, corrupt before it even hits the surface. Don't blame the companies, blame the accountability of their own governments.
-Since then, there have been few other signs of trouble, even during three rounds of national elections in 2006, in which Nigeria provided campaign funds to many candidates, and there were widespread reports of vote buying.
Oil companies have, however, already paid out some $237 million for the right to look for the oil, although only a fraction of the money has gone to Sao Tomeans.
Yet, even out of the estimated US $80 million that Sandbu reckons the government has received, less than US $30 million has gone into government coffers, with the rest being invested in New York on interest-bearing securities.

The companies have no idea where that money is going, but you do?
Why carry water for the status quo?

Of São Tomé and Príncipe's total population, about 137,500 live on São Tomé and 6,000 on Príncipe.

I'd guess that ~25 will be extremely rich, ~143,475 will be poor as dirt.

Would ya' just look at that lovely Tertiary strata. The 'Akata' formation is an especially stellar source rock. The turbidity currents were strong at that point, hence the turbidite deposits on that shelf. The coven of oil-bearing sands in deltaic anticlinal conditions is truly an amazing occurrence. Makes me miss my well logging days.
Pity. Shame that none of those hydrocarbons go back to the people of the region.
But, that's no brimstone!
