ahile back i had the same problem. i used this and it works well. i cleaned out my print log files and other stuff and all my space came back.

When you use FileVault, your home dir is contained in a sparseimage, which grows according as youn fill your dir, but doesn't shrink as you delete data.
Turns ou it's easy to make it compact again. :)

Seriously.. What could be taking up all that space, now that I've deleted 7 GBs of data?
I know I haven't generated any new, purposely. :/

Erase free space.

I already assured that the mentioned data is deleted, and yes - I emptied the trash. :-)

but that just writes zeros to disk space that the OS thinks is empty... not the case here...

Could it have something to do with Spotlight?
