I recently moved about 7 GB data from my internal harddrive in my iBook G4, to an external HD.
Weird thing is: I have no more free space now than when I started - it is as if nothing was moved.
The mentioned 7 GB *are* removed and I have already fixed my drive with disk util. No cigar...
Help, anyone?

Empty Trash?

I already assured that the mentioned data is deleted, and yes - I emptied the trash. :-)

Seriously.. What could be taking up all that space, now that I've deleted 7 GBs of data?
I know I haven't generated any new, purposely. :/

that data are multiplying. you must kill the alpha male data.

use an FTP app or Pathfinder or something to view hidden files?

Utilities-Disk Utility
Erase free space.
That[s] (might be ) the ticket.

but that just writes zeros to disk space that the OS thinks is empty... not the case here...

Could it have something to do with Spotlight?

Breakthrough: http://www.macosxhints.com/artic…
When you use FileVault, your home dir is contained in a sparseimage, which grows according as youn fill your dir, but doesn't shrink as you delete data.
Turns ou it's easy to make it compact again. :)
