I suppose that's why we wouldn't be friends in real life _salisae_. My true friends don't let me get away with shit, nor me - them.

Honestly though, Vaio's and MACs are heavily promoted in the media, primarily in television shows and films. Most of the characters in TV pretend like they're using MACs, and occasionally some will use the Vaio.
But I do hate people who believe they know everything or who don't understand a joke. There are lots of them in university.

Shari, I don't mind if someone does it a few times to get stuff off their chest, but to do it constantly or to try and prove a point (that they really don't have to prove) is different. If everyone says, "Shut the fuck up" to a person who is a know-it-all then it's usually not a good thing (for the person who is constantly talking).

it's funny what saying nothing does. it puts a sort of mirror before them and they realize on their own. it's like tai chi of conversation.
and i'm not being fake .. if that's what you're implying, jesse. i just don't argue him every step of the way.
he'd love that way too much.

I'm not implying anything.
You said:
"as a good friend you should let them go into their know it all drunkeness.
that's what friends do ... let others enjoy themselves. it doesn't really hurt you."
Which leads me to believe that you are generalizing about everyone's friendships. And not everyone is the same. Should or can be friends.
And by you saying "it doesn't really hurt you" meaning that you are being selfish. Because it doesn't do any good for your so called "friend".
Also, you said: you just let them run their mouths because it makes them feel better. How is that an argument?
You'd rather let yourself get annoyed, rather than tell someone how you really feel? I don't think that's being fake, perhaps a bit jaded if anything.

we're talking about the extreme case of a know it all friend. i have one friend like this.
i'm sure you're a great friend. i'm not implying otherwise .. only saying that this is how i deal with this kind of situation.
his very best friend is a know it all as well and they sit around bantering until they exchange sides of the argument and can't remember what the hell they were talking about.
it's just not my thing. if he wants to talk and talk and it makes him feel good then fine. my arguing him isn't going to change his ways.

That's cool, but why are you even friends in the first place?
Just curious,

(Jan 9 07, 18:57)That's true. I remember when people always said that they liked how I only said relevant things (seriously) and was a good listener. It wasn't until I left high school that I realized what this meant and that it's definitely a good social skill.

ahh .. well. i have asked myself that question before. you know how you care about someone even though they're dumb about some things? that's how i feel about him.
he can be more relaxed and carefree at other times. he's like a kid brother. we went to design school together and everyone disliked him because he was so cocky. they just didn't see his friendly side.
know it alls need love too! it's just a sign of insecurity and i feel a little motherly or something. dunno.

Yeah, for some reason bitchy people like me. I have no idea why, but they have never been mean to me like they are to other people (in my experience) even though I always tell myself that these sorts of people are not always great to hang out with. They can definitely be entertaining though, which is why I tend to like the bitchy characters in entertainment.

if for no other reason than irony's sake i'm glad we bickered in the know it all thread
- caseyc0
Good lord, this is the most ironic thread ever. You ask for stories and everyone tries to one up each other with the knowing-of-it-all.
I know a few people like this (and have probably been so myself at times) but the absolute worst is a friend of my wife, she makes me furious...
We were going to a wedding one time and it was the day before, I needed a tux, and this friend of my wife was basically yelling at me that there is no way I would ever find a place to get me a tux in a day. She was all "I just planned a wedding for my cousing, believe me! You need to reserve them months in advance!"
So the first place I called was like "Come on down and we'll get you all set up." She shut right the fuck up after that. It was fantastic.

I like to one up people, particularly females.

i've noticed that older men that work at Office Depot or Office Max are complete know-it-alls....
...and assholes.

my brother is a bit of a know-it-all as well.
it makes me want to smack him upside his head, sometimes.

I've got a mate who always knows says or does things better than me or anyone else I know.
I never correct him if I know what he's said to be incorrect. That way he doesn't learn anything and continues to look like a muppet.

" ...found that conservatives have a greater desire to reach a decision quickly and stick to it, and are higher on conscientiousness, which includes neatness, orderliness, duty, and rule-following. Liberals are higher on openness, which includes intellectual curiosity, excitement-seeking, novelty, creativity for its own sake, and a craving for stimulation like travel, color, art, music, and literature.
The study's authors also concluded that conservatives have less tolerance for ambiguity, a trait they say is exemplified when George Bush says things like, "Look, my job isn't to try to nuance. My job is to tell people what I think," and "I'm the decider." Those who think the world is highly dangerous and those with the greatest fear of death are the most likely to be conservative. "
