Any of you have friends or people you know who you know enough about to figure they don't know more than you about a particular subject, but they do their damndest to act like they do?
Yesterday I was telling someone about buying an lcd monitor, and about how I was being picky about the specs because of doing design/web work blah blah blah
What do I get in return?
"You should get a Mac to do design work."
No shit. by someone who doesn't even OWN a computer.
Then, from the other person:
"Why didn't you get a Sony monitor, they make the best there are."
Groan... then he told me I should get a Vaio...
Oh, the other funny thing is that the first person told me they were getting a $100 LCD monitor that's "awesome" and I politely offered to crap in a plastic box for free and save them the money buying the same thing. LOL
Let's hear your war stories of dealing with people like that.

who can blame anyone for "knowing it all" ??? look at what's on the tv and in our media.
like brainwashing... "mac" "sony" "dell" - yea their great alright.
truth is, u can do most of the same shit on either a pc or mac ... actually i can do the same work on BOTH despite what people may think.
everyone always assumes macs are the design machine... i'm like hmmm not really unless i was doing audio and video stuff.
people are like huh? I'm like yea.... i can kinda read all their files and do my work on a machine that's far cheaper...
but the computer debate can go forever. I work inbetween Mac and PC all the time.
The monitors is an interesting one... $100 doesn't mean it's bad... and that's the brainwashing i'm talking about... it's like apple. it's just a perceived value.
maybe you can get a good monitor at $100. I found a good monitor in the trash for free.. was a CRT, guess someone got a new fancy LCD ... they probably don't use it for color correction though so they probably don't care that the colors shift in LCDs depending on the angle of view.
but i digress. people do want to know it all... when it comes to computers and design i have my preferences i'll just say that.
but when it comes to brain surgery i'll just let the doctors do their work =)
people just need to be honest is all. everyone can be knowledgeable about SOMETHING but no one can be knowledgeable about EVERYTHING

i like to be very cynical with them.... its a lot of fun

I've never claimed to know it all, but I do know that you don't need that apostrophe.

I don't follow. The first person didn't own a computer but they are getting a $1000 LCD monitor?

Some people are so stubborn that they will debate their argument until the bitter ends, just so they aren’t proven wrong. Whether they know it’s right or wrong is irrelevant. Pleading their case is first and foremost.
I've been accused of being a know it all by some of my friends, light hearted though. But my argument was that; usually I only talk about things that I am confident about. Or if not, at least attempt to learn.
I don't and have never felt the need for small talk or chit chat just to hear my voice. I just don't get it, and I kinda dislike people like that. No real reason, I just think they're deadbeats. The same friend last night was debating with me whether or not the universe was expanding. He had never heard of the theory. I couldn't quite believe it (that he hadn't heard about it). And also he was led to believe that the moon just magically appeared one day with the earth and has always been there.
My argument was that the moon came to be from; something smashing the earth, and all the debris orbiting the earth arpeggiated itself and formed the moon.
A bit of research settled that. Although just theories, I've always have thought to believe in them.
Which then leads me to the ultimate question:
What if time is expanding too?

Once, I was someplace and said something. This other guy wnet to say something and I could tell he thought he knew what was what. As soon as he opened his mouth I shot him dead with my six-shooter. Friggin know-it-all.

I was editing with a cameraman once and he started to tell me how to do things when I politely asked him how many edits he had done, which was zero, I responded with which is exactly the amount of times I have done camera work so please don't tell me how to do my job as I have not commented on your camera work once.
He was asked to leave the edit suite by the director after that.

bye moon. nice knowing ya :)
(it's slowly moving away from earth you know)
feel lucky you were able to experience an eclipse

My biggest pet peeve is when people listen to your opinions then parrot them back(nearly verbatim) to someone else as if they're their own. They get drunk on just wielding authority of any kind.
- version30
ever have someone repeat back to you at a later date something you had informed them about prior?
that's the worst, especially when they fuck it up

i don't know if the universe is expanding, but the chikens are.

The Chicken"As I was walking down Stanton Street early one Sunday morning, I saw a chicken a few yards ahead of me. I was walking faster than the chicken, so I gradually caught up. By the time we approached Eighteenth Avenue, I was close behind. The chicken turned south on Eighteenth. At the fourth house along, it turned in at the walk, hopped up the front steps, and rapped sharply on the metal storm door with its beak. After a moment, the door opened and the chicken went in."

i had a client over the weekend who insisted that 'web 2.0' was the future of the internet.
'No ... really ... it is'.

Don't tell people that don't know anything about computers, that you are buying a new monitor. That should solve the problem : )

as a good friend you should let them go into their know it all drunkeness.
that's what friends do ... let others enjoy themselves. it doesn't really hurt you.
i have a friend like this and i just let him talk if he's in that kind of mood. he bolsters himself up and feels great. ha. it's almost like watching someone masterbate.
it annoys me somewhat but i manage to maintain my patience.
