epill's 'mark to erase' solution ( http://www.lifehacker.com/softwa… ) can often be done with the ORIGINAL permanent marker too.
be careful with acetone etc - if you choose the wrong one you can make it harder to get off.

I was a cleaner for 3 and half years.
try meths, most permenant markers are meth based.

i just totally blew some wraps on some late xmas gifts (you know...).
glue is not what it's used to be.
it got gluebalized out of nowhere and now it just sticks to yer fingers like an horny octopus and scrambles the whole deal.
