So I'm trying to make the jump into motion graphics. My question is, if you had to pick the better option, which would you pick? After Effects or Final Cut Pro/Shake/Motion?
I haven't delved into either, and because of that I'm just trying to find what you guys believe to be the best possible solution or program for Motion Graphics, and which one I should go about learning.
Thanks in advance

If you just want to get into motion graphics then I would say look into After Effects. I use FCP but I do film editing, not motion effects but with Motion I have the option. And Shake is expensive and not part of the studio package.

use both.
after effects delivers better on the pure motion animations but shake is better for compositing.
and use final cut to bring it al togheter i would say...

forget shake btw...just remebered...apple is dumping it...

I wouldn't say apple is dumping shake. They ditched all the old source code and are building the next version from scratch.
To answer your original question you are wanting After Effects. Motion has a few cool features but in attempt to make it accessible to a wider audience it feels dumbed down.

shake will be very affordable in around six months it's likely to retail at around £250 pounds.
use all of the programs you mentioned they all have a purpose in any self respecting film or TV designers repertoire.

Final cut is more of a video editing package and the others are considered compositing apps. I think Final Cut is the only one that will capture video. That's the only think I use it for. After Effects is very easy to learn if you are familiar with Photoshop because it works with layers, modes, masks and integrates with Adobe programs very well. I don't really think Final Cut is necessary at all aside from capturing.

adobe premiere will be back on mac

Plus remember After effects is obviously a adobe program. This means tons of good stuff when moving comps from Pshop. FCP = editing, shake = compositing
