buy used. at least there's some recycling point to your thread.

i've had 4 cars and always used. I don't see the point of buying new ones since after 1 year they're still ready to go and cost half the price. which means that new ones are twice the real cost of a proper vehicle.

you can get a scion new for under 15k

i just bought a 2007 Mazda 3 a week ago. I love it. My point is that it is best to buy new if you can as the resell value is generally higher.

you got a scion, soler?
i got a TC a few months ago. love it more & more everyday. Got it for 19k, but they have new ones with no options (still get power windows & glass roof) for $15k. Can't beat Toyota quality.

(Dec 16 06, 19:41)what are you talking about? resell on a new car is shit.
try to sell your car right now. you cant because you owe $$$
you have to wait a couple years or pay more than your min. to do that. mazda 3 maybe good resell if you wait a couple of years with low miles.anyway buy new/used. so like buy this guys mazda 3 in a year, you will get a better deal. the car will still have the same warranty and its still got that new vibe.
dont buy american , resell is total shit and the car is total shit.
also take in to consideration you can buy a bmw or something flashy for 15k but can you afford the insurance and the maintenance.
owning a new car feels good, if you got the cash than to cover all that than do it.
me i have a have a new acura rsx type-s - personally I dig my 87 gti over it anyday. thats just me.

the biggest depreceation hit of a car's value is the second it leaves the dealership in your name.
Avoid that and buy used.
Set a budget. Look at the insurance while you price out cars on craigslist.
Make sure the timing belt has been changed on ANY car after 60,000 miles. If it goes your fucked and budget at least$1500 to get it changed before 90,000.
Take a good look around the wheel wells and trunk, around the hood...looking for steel screws that do not match the paint job. That screams accident.
Drive it good and hard. There are lots and lots of good used cars.
If you want to resell it within one year get a Subaru Outback Wagon [ULP!]

Honda Fit/Jazz. I had one of those. It's like a tardis inside. Really clever small car. Should be able to pickup a second hand one now as well.
And definitely buy 2nd hand. I can afford a new beemer but refuse to waste my money so my current car cost just 2k. Had it for a year runs just fine. Mind you I only do about 2,000 miles a year as I walk to work so anything new is just a waste.
