Is there a way to import data from an Excel file into InDesign text frames?

I figured it out, if anyone cares to know. I just saved my excel file as an XML table, then imported it into InDesign. It will then show up in the XML Pane on the left, and you should see the structure of the XML doc. from there you can simply drag the entire spreadsheet or just elements of it into your text frames. I'm just now figuring out how to strip the formatting.

File/place -select document-
at the bottom is a check box "show import options"
thenyou can remove formatting
etc.
hope this helps.

i've done the second method, but it links the file and is way into fucking shit up.
XML save works really good and you can just cut and paste a section of cells into a set in indd and in some versions you can just paste an array into the document and it'll auto create the cells. indd tables are the worst ... hopefully CS3 will make them less of a headache.

If this is somethiing that you have to do often, I'd suggest the InData plugin. I recently had to insert one million doctor listings into and medical guide. The doctors had to seperated by specialization, and those that had multiple offices needed not to have multiple listings, just the name and then the locations sperated by a double break.

Thanks imavery, that sounds like exactly what I had to do as well, just not quite as many listings. I can't imagine what that job would have been like without that plugin.
