Jaline, what do you mean by "exchanging things"?
An exchange is somewhat of an even trade... a true gift is something undeserved, an unmerrited, one sided transfer without compensation.

i give up.
- kelpie0
yes, it was pure chinese silk and cost me a fortune. the bitch.
- Jaline0
well, I mean sometimes you feel obligated to buy the person something after they buy you a gift...

Check the defenition of what a gift is. I think our understanding of a gift is very twisted
- kelpie0
"something given voluntarily without payment in return, as to show favor toward someone, honor an occasion, or make a gesture of assistance; present."
yeah, just like I thought
- harlequino0
I can't wait for this to turn into a political argument, somehow.

In light of that defenition (and to help get us to the political argument)
Santa is a bastard gift rapist sonofbitch then...
- paraselene0
well, the entire idea that someone is either 'deserving' or 'undeserving' of a gift defies the nature of gift-giving itself.
